This position is expected to start January 2027 and continue through the entire Winter/Spring term (i.e through April/May 2026) or into Summer 2027 ifavailable. We ask for a minimum of12 weeks, full-time (40 hours/week) and on-site, for most internships.Our internship program is for students who are actively enrolled in an academic program.Recent graduates seeking employment after graduation and not returning to school should apply for full-time positions, not internships.

International Students: If your work authorization is through CPT, please consult your school on your ability to work 40 hours per week before applying. You must be able to work40 hoursper week on-site. Many students will be limited to part-timeduring the academic year.

Tesla Energy Grid Solutions team is looking for a highly motivated individual who is excited about solving real-life power system issues around renewables integration. As an intern in this position, you will have an opportunity to build RMS/EMT power systems model for Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) and perform system studies.

What You'll Do
  • Translate project details into EMT and RMS models in collaboration withcross-functional teams
  • Implement project-specific cases in EMT and RMS simulation platforms (PSCAD, PSS/E, PSLF, TSAT, MATLAB/Simulink) using generic and user-defined models
  • Develop scripts and wrapper models to improve the accuracy and usability of generic and user-defined models
  • Build automation and validation frameworks to compare results across EMT and RMS simulation platforms
  • Investigate and resolve discrepancies in user-defined models and in simulation results from EMT and RMS platforms
  • Track and synthesize interconnection requirements and reliability standards from ISOs, IEEE, NERC, FERC, and utilities, and design tests and system studies to meet them

What You'll Bring
  • Currently pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or a related field, with coursework in power system analysis, power electronics, and control systems
  • Strong foundation in power system modeling and simulation, including power flow, short circuit, dynamic/transient stability, and electromagnetic transients
  • Experience modeling inverter-based resources (solar, battery energy storage systems) and large loads including their inverter- and plant-level details in at least two EMT or RMS simulation platforms, such as PSCAD, PSS/E, PSLF, TSAT, or MATLAB/Simulink
  • Strong debugging skills for generic and user-defined models, including isolating and resolving mismatches between EMT and RMS results
  • Familiarity with user-defined models and simulation automation in Python, MATLAB, FORTRAN, and/or C++
  • Experiencing in using AI tools in a technical workflow (simulation automation, debugging, or data analysis)
  • Working knowledge of interconnection requirements and reliability standards from ISOs, utilities, IEEE (e.g., 2800, 1547), NERC, and FERC
  • Ability to learn quickly, work with cross-functional teams, and present technical results clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences

    Expected Compensation
    $20.00 - $50.00 + benefits

    Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
