Description

Do you enjoy solving complex plasma physics challenges that impact space missions?

Are you passionate about protecting spacecraft and payloads from the harsh environments of space?

Do you like contributing to cutting-edge technologies that strengthen our nation's civil and national security space capabilities?

If so, we're looking for someone like you to join our team at APL!

We are seeking a creative, self-starting Radiation Survivability Engineer, motivated to contribute to innovative efforts in understanding radiation effects on systems operating in space and / or nuclear environments. As a team member you will develop interpersonal networks and cultivate collaboration across multi-disciplinary teams that may include scientists, spacecraft and payload systems engineers, design engineers and mission planners. You will join a hardworking team of engineers, analysts and scientists who work to ensure that our nation's critical space-based systems survive in, operate through and measure accurate data in all of the environments they encounter. Our team has been a crucial part of the analysis, development and production of spacecraft systems.

As a Radiation Survivability Engineer, you will...

  • Evaluation of electronic parts, materials and systems against natural and strategic radiation environments / requirements.
  • Development of radiation test requirements for EEE components, materials and systems.
  • Test planning and execution.
  • Generation of test plans, test reports and analyses.
  • Operation of radiation environment and transport codes to specify and verify radiation requirements.
  • Collaborate with all program team members to ensure systems will survive the expected radiation environments on assigned projects.
  • Run radiation transport and environment codes / models.
  • Develop requirements, plans, and fixturing for radiation testing of EEE devices, systems and / or materials.
  • Successfully complete radiation Test and Evaluation (T&E) activities. This includes execution at our in-house TID and Pulsed Laser sources as well as off-site test campaigns for neutron, x-ray, gamma, heavy ion or other relevant environments.
