Part-time technician

Chemistry and Biochemistry

Salary Range: $23.34 per hour

Work Schedule: This is part-time, non-exempt position; Monday - Friday, hours to be determined.

Position Overview: Under the direct supervision of Prof. Yixian Wang, the incumbent will perform various experiments, data analysis and organization support for the Wang Lab.

Essential Functions:

The incumbent's duties include but are not limited to:

* Performing cell maintenance and cell viability tests.

* Performing experiments using atomic force microscopy, circular dichroism, digital microscopy, and surface plasmon resonance microscopy.

* Analyzing experimental data, creating figures, presenting results in meetings, symposiums, and conferences, and preparing manuscripts.

* Overseeing laboratory safety and equipment maintenance.

* Overseeing personnel in the laboratory to coordinate research efforts for increased efficiency.

* Assisting with ordering and procurement of supplies and equipment, and with general maintenance of the laboratory.

* Training new students and volunteer workers.

Requirements:

* The incumbent must have a Master's degree from an accredited college or university in Analytical/Physical Chemistry or Biochemistry.

* The incumbent must have laboratory experience in biomedical field and experience with cell culturing and bio assays, atomic force microscopy, circular dichroism, and surface plasmon resonance microscopy.

* The incumbent must demonstrate an interest and or ability in working in a multicultural/multiethnic environment.

* Fingerprinting will be taken and checked by the California Department of Justice and the FBI.

* A completed UAS employment application is required.

Desired Qualifications:

* Experience in the characterization of protein aggregation (e.g., in morphology and secondary structure).

* Knowledge of or experience researching the health effects of nanoplastics.

* Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, ImageJ, and MATLAB.

* Writing skills to summarize research findings and integrate them into scientific manuscripts.

* Experience with materials synthesis and characterization techniques, along with a willingness to acquire new skills.

The incumbent must demonstrate an interest or ability in working in a multicultural/multiethnic environment. A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the UAS.
