Forensic Psychology Assistant/Associate/Full Professor

The School of Interdisciplinary Forensics (SIF) in the New College of Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences (New College) at Arizona State University (ASU) invites applications for a full-time, benefits-eligible tenured or tenure-eligible faculty position at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor in forensic psychology/psychology and law. Salary and rank are based on qualifications at hire. The anticipated start date is August 2027.

The faculty member will be a core member of ASUs Law and Behavioral Science group, an interdisciplinary collective of psychological scientists engaged in research that addresses current and emerging issues facing the legal system in its broadest sense. Law and Behavioral Science faculty may participate in university-wide graduate programs. Thus, the successful candidate will join the faculty in SIF and have opportunities to collaborate with faculty across ASU, including colleagues in the School of Social and Behavioral Sciences, the Department of Psychology, and other behavioral science units. These collaborations will support the continued development of interdisciplinary academic programs and research initiatives in forensic psychology and psychology and law.

The area of specialization is open within psychological science applied to law or the legal system. We are, however, especially interested in candidates with expertise in clinical forensic psychology, correctional psychology, or police psychology. Within clinical forensic psychology, expertise in the assessment of people involved in the criminal legal systemincluding competency to stand trial, criminal responsibility, violence or recidivism risk, forensic neuropsychological assessment, and related forms of forensic clinical evaluationis particularly desirable. Because this is a tenured or tenure-eligible faculty appointment, candidates with clinical or applied expertise must also demonstrate a strong program of empirical research, with a research record and agenda consistent with appointment to the tenure-track faculty of a research university.

Essential Functions of the Position:

• Establish and sustain a vigorous program of research.
• Seek external research funding appropriate to the candidates research program.
• Create and teach undergraduate and graduate courses in face-to-face, hybrid, and/or online formats.
• Contribute to program curricula, program development, and, as appropriate, to university-wide efforts to train clinical behavioral scientists.
• Develop research, educational, and professional collaborations with justice-system partners, as appropriate to the candidates expertise, such as courts (including the Arizona Supreme Court and Administrative Office of the Courts), law enforcement agencies, correctional systems, and behavioral health organizations.
• Prepare course syllabi, lectures, learning exercises, exams, and other course materials, and grade assignments and assessments.
• Develop, maintain, and update course materials as appropriate to the field and modality.
• Maintain regular availability to students and support student success, including holding office hours weekly.
• Mentor undergraduate and graduate students in research and professional development.
• Contribute meaningful service to the School, College, University, profession, and community.
• Engage in regular professional development and foster collegiality throughout the organization.
• Attend faculty, unit, and committee meetings per unit expectations.

Required Qualifications:

• A Ph.D., Psy.D., or other appropriate terminal degree in psychology or a closely related field by the time of appointment.
• Demonstrated expertise in the application of behavioral science to law or the legal system.
• For appointment at the rank of Associate or Full Professor, a record of teaching, research, and service that merits appointment at the corresponding rank with tenure at Arizona State University.

Desired Qualifications:

• Significant experience in forensic clinical assessment or treatment, correctional psychology, police psychology, or related areas of forensic psychological practice.
• A strong record of high-quality empirical, peer-reviewed scholarship in forensic psychology and/or psychology and law, with evidence of an active research agenda commensurate with career stage.
• A successful record of seeking or securing external research funding commensurate with career stage.
• Experience teaching and/or supervising students in forensic psychology, psychological assessment, or the intersection of behavioral science and law.
• Evidence of successful course development and teaching effectiveness commensurate with the candidates rank, as demonstrated by student evaluations, syllabi, peer observations, annual performance evaluations, or similar materials.
• Experience collaborating with justice-system partners such as law enforcement, courts, correctional systems, behavioral health organizations, or forensic hospitals.
• Demonstrated commitment to working successfully with students from a wide variety of socio-economic and cultural backgrounds, including first-generation college students.
• Demonstrated excellent English written and verbal communication skills.
• For clinically oriented candidates, expertise in forensic psychological assessment or intervention in judicial, law enforcement, or correctional settings, including one or more of the following areas: competency to stand trial, criminal responsibility, violence or recidivism risk assessment, forensic neuropsychological assessment, fitness-for-duty evaluations, correctional counseling and rehabilitation, or related areas.
• For clinically oriented candidates, current licensure in Arizona as a behavioral science clinician or eligibility for such licensure; board certification in an applicable forensic specialty, including ABPP, ABPN, ABCSW, NOFSW, the National Association of Forensic Counselors, or qualifications that would support pursuit of applicable certification.
