Data Analyst - College of Medicine, Tucson

This position serves as a subject matter expert in data analysis, business intelligence, and reporting for the College of Medicine - Tucson. Drawing on a strong understanding of college business processes and institutional data sources, including UAccess systems and UAccess Analytics, the incumbent plays a key role in designing, developing, and maintaining business intelligence dashboards, reports, analytical datasets, and COM-T databases and data warehouse resources. This position transforms complex data into reliable, actionable information that supports strategic planning, performance assessment, and operational improvement across education, research, clinical operations, and administration. Working closely with college stakeholders, data owners, and university partner teams, the analyst translates business needs into analytical solutions, integrates and validates data from multiple systems, and identifies trends and opportunities to improve processes and decision-making. This position also supports reporting and data needs associated with UAccess Analytics and other university systems while promoting consistent definitions, data quality, and responsible data use. This role requires strong problem-solving and communication skills, and the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced, highly visible environment, responding with a sense of urgency while maintaining accuracy and delivering dependable results.

• Identifies business intelligence, reporting and data analysis needs at the College of Medicine with the objective of turning data into critical information and knowledge.
• Maintain detailed knowledge of UAccess Systems and UAccess Analytics.
• Develops SQL queries, transformations and database objects that house data from multiple systems. Support data warehouse and validate loaded data, investigate discrepancies, and improve the reliability and efficiency of analytical datasets.
• Monitor data processes and production environments, troubleshoots data ingestion process and performance issues, and supports compliance with institutional policies and security requirements.
• Develops and maintains dashboards, reports, and analytical datasets. Translate stakeholder needs into clear requirements and meaningful performance measures.
• Conduct ad hoc analyses and present results in formats that help leadership and end users make informed decisions.
• Supports data governance, metadata management, data security, and data quality practices. Assists with ongoing maintenance, operational continuity, and performance of COM-T data platforms.
• Partner with team members and COM-T constituents to gather requirements, understand business processes, troubleshoot data issues, and develop data solutions that support operational, education, research, and strategic needs.
• Creates and maintains technical documentation, data models, process flows, data definitions, and development standards.
• Participate in planning, testing, reviews, knowledge sharing, and process improvement activities.
• Evaluate new data technologies and tools as appropriate.
• Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

• Knowledge of data analysis, business intelligence, relational databases, and data warehouse principles and practices.
• Skilled in SQL, data preparation, validation, and extracting data from multiple sources.
• Ability to develop dashboards and reports using Power BI or comparable business intelligence tools.
• Ability to select appropriate analytical methods, interpret results accurately, and translate findings into practical recommendations.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively, manage competing priorities, and handle sensitive information responsibly.
• Ability to collaborate with stakeholders to define meaningful metrics, improve data quality, and develop and implement effective reporting solutions.
• Strong skills in problem-solving, documentation, project coordination, and communication, including the ability to interpret and explain complex information to various audiences.
• Knowledge of data analysis and reporting principles and practices applicable to higher education, academic medicine, healthcare, or research environments.

• Bachelor's Degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required.
