Position Description:

The University of Iowa, Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism, is seeking an Assistant Professor in the Research Track in the field of lipotoxicity in metabolic diseases.

In addition to contributing to team-science projects, the selected candidate will be expected to contribute to writing and submission of grant applications as well as engage in teaching and mentoring a wide range of students.

Education Requirement:


  • Applicants are required to have a PhD or equivalent degree.


Required Qualifications:


  • Applicants are required to have substantial expertise (as evidenced by publications in high impact journals) in the areas of lipid metabolism and mitochondrial function in general but specifically in the context of development of obesity and associated metabolic diseases.
  • The selected candidate will have experience in establishing in vitro and in vivo models for mitochondrial phenotyping.
  • Expertise in culturing mouse primary cells (adipocytes, hepatocytes etc.), cell biological, and molecular biological techniques such as ELISA, flow cytometry, immunofluorescence and confocal microscopy is required.
  • Applicants are required to have a strong background in mouse genetics and phenotyping mouse models related to development in obesity and associated metabolic diseases. Experience in designing and generating transgenic and knockout mice is required.
  • The ideal candidate would have demonstrated excellent communication skills, numerous publications highlighting expertise in lipotoxicity in metabolic disease.
  • Authorization to work in the U.S. is required.
