Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School seeks a Maternal-Fetal Medicine physician to serve as Medical Director of Labor and Delivery for Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital - New Brunswick and join the Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine within the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Reproductive Sciences. The Medical Director will provide clinical and operational leadership for Labor and Delivery services, partnering with nursing, hospital, and physician leadership to ensure excellence in patient care, quality, safety, and operational performance. The successful candidate will also maintain an active Maternal-Fetal Medicine practice, caring for high-risk obstetric patients while contributing to the Division's educational, research, and quality improvement missions. This is an open-rank faculty appointment with rank commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Qualifications






Minimum Education and Experience

  • Medical degree (MD, DO, or equivalent).
  • Residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology
  • Fellowship in Maternal Medicine

  • Skills: Excellent communication skills and a proven track record in multidisciplinary team collaboration.

Certifications/Licenses

  • Board certified or board eligible in Obstetrics and Gynecology, with subspecialty certification in Maternal-Fetal Medicine from the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ABOG).
  • Eligible for medical licensure in the state of New Jersey.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Preferred Qualifications


  • Strongly Preferred Experience: Minimum of 3 years of clinical experience in a high acuity Labor and Delivery unit at an academic medical center


These may influence the academic rank at which the candidate is appointed.

  • Demonstrated commitment to teaching, mentorship, and supporting learners.
  • Interest or experience in clinical research and scholarly activity.
  • Experience working in an academic medical center.
  • Prior involvement in qualityimprovement initiatives.
  • A record of research publications and success in obtaining grant funding.
  • Leadership experience in clinical care, education, or research.

Overview
Labor and Delivery Leadership, Clinical Operations, Patient Care:

  1. Serve as Medical Director of Labor and Delivery, providing clinical and operational leadership in partnership with nursing and hospital leadership.
  2. Oversee Labor and Delivery operations, including patient flow, triage efficiency, bed utilization, quality, safety, and patient experience.
  3. Lead multidisciplinary quality and safety initiatives, including safety huddles, peer review activities, root-cause analyses, and performance improvement efforts.
  4. Establish, implement, and promote adherence to evidence-based clinical protocols and best practices, including obstetric hemorrhage, hypertension, and fetal monitoring guidelines.
  5. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure coordinated, high-quality care for low-risk and high-risk obstetric patients.
  6. Provide high-quality, evidence-based maternal-fetal medicine care, including outpatient and inpatient consultations, prenatal diagnosis, ultrasound, ultrasound-guided procedures, deliveries, and call coverage.
  7. Support growth of the maternal-fetal medicine program through clinical program development, outreach, and collaborative care initiatives.


Education & Training:

  1. Teach and mentor maternal-fetal medicine fellows, residents, medical students, advanced practice providers, and other learners.
  2. Support the educational mission of the division and fellowship program through clinical teaching, conferences, lectures, and hands-on training.
  3. Foster a culture of professionalism, teamwork, and continuous learning.

Research & Scholarly Activity:

  1. Participate in clinical, translational, and/or outcomes-based research and scholarly activities.
  2. Collaborate on research, quality improvement, and patient outcomes initiatives within the division, department, and health system.
  3. Support trainee scholarly activity, including presentations and publications.

Other Administrative & Leadership Responsibilities:

  1. Partner with departmental, hospital, and nursing leadership to advance strategic, operational, and clinical priorities.
  2. Participate in departmental, institutional, and professional service activities, including committees, accreditation efforts, and program development.
  3. Promote a culture of collaboration, accountability, respect, and continuous improvement.
