Summary:

Performs radiographic procedures as requested by physicians and Radiologist. Has a good understanding of advance anatomy. Provides excellent care for patients and an understanding that they may be in pain; follows AIDET guidelines. Makes sure to check positive identification before performing all exams. Has advanced knowledge of contrast media, how it affects patients and what action to take in the event of a reaction. Checks and double checks all contrast before it is given to the patient and charts contrast usage appropriately in the patients chart. Able to obtain diagnostic quality images for interpretation by a Radiologist. Has the ability to manipulate the x-ray machine to acquire adequate images even when the patients are not able to move. Understand that the operating room is a priority and that the surgeons needs need to be attended to quickly.

Responsibilities:


  • Meets expectations of the applicable OneCHRISTUS Competencies: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders.
  • Performs radiographic procedures in accordance with established department protocols and within standard time frames. Prepares and orients patients to procedures to be performed.
  • Provides patient care to patients while in the Radiology Department.
  • Provides radiation protection to patients, fellow workers and him or herself.
  • Operates imaging equipment, computer and other department equipment. Maintains and operates equipment in accordance with department and manufacturers recommendations. Checks patients for prior studies in PACS and requests a merge if needed.
  • Prepares and maintains written and or computerized documentation in accordance with department and hospital policy.
  • Maintains supplies and accessories in work areas on a regular basis. Keeps the work area clean and orderly. Stocks supplies when low and cleans table tops and surfaces at the beginning and end of each shift.
  • Maintains orderliness and cleanliness in all areas of the Radiology Department.
  • Is cooperative and helpful in a clear and courteous manner to patients, visitors, physicians, staff and co-workers. Practices AIDET guidelines at all times.
  • Maintains and exhibits a current knowledge of radiologic technology. Participates in professional continuing educational workshops and programs.

Job Requirements:

Education/Skills

  • High school diploma or equivalent and graduation from accredited Radiologic Technology Program required.
  • Thorough knowledge of radiographic imaging equipment, anatomy and physiology, radiographic positioning, medical terminology and basic computer skills.

Experience

  • Minimum one year experience required which can be substituted with clinical education experience.

Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications

  • ARRT and New Mexico State licenses required. BLS certification issued through American Heart Association required within a month of hire date.

In accordance with the CHRISTUS Health License, Certification and Registration Verification Policy, all Associates are required to obtain the required certifications for their respective positions within the designated time frame.
