The WEX Summer Internship Program: Learn, Lead, and Make an Impact

Our 13-week paid internship program, running from late May to mid-August, is a chance for you to gain real-world experience and develop your skills. Recruiting begins in September and continues through November at our various locations across the U.S.

About the Team/Role:

We are looking for an enthusiastic and curious Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) Intern to join our team, gain hands-on experience, and kickstart your career in reliability engineering. This is an exciting time to join the SRE transformation at WEX. Our sophisticated products power a diverse range of customer businesses, generating rich, complex telemetry data. As we scale and modernize, ensuring reliability, performance, and efficiency across our systems is crucial.

As an SRE Intern, you'll support the team in building foundational reliability practices that keep WEX services seamless and highly available. Working alongside experienced engineers, you will learn to develop automation tools, improve system observability, and assist with root cause analysis. You'll also gain exposure to incident management and learn how to build resilient, scalable systems.

We operate with an agile mindset, blending engineering and operations in a collaborative environment. You'll be surrounded by mentors who will support your learning, guide your technical growth, and help you solve real-world problems.

How you'll make an impact:

  • Assist in monitoring system reliability and performance alongside senior engineers.

  • Shadow team members during incident response, triage, and root cause analysis.

  • Write basic automation scripts to help reduce routine operational tasks.

  • Learn and apply best practices in system design, maintenance, and change management.

  • Follow established processes for testing and service deployment.

  • Participate in team learning activities and knowledge-sharing sessions.

Experience you'll bring:

  • Educational Foundation: Pursuing a Master's degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Software Engineering, or a related field.

  • Basic understanding of Linux/Unix administration, networking, and system troubleshooting.

  • Familiarity with scripting languages such as Python, Bash, or PowerShell.

Preferred Skills:

  • Basic experience in CI/CD tools (e.g., Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or GitLab CI).

  • Awareness of cloud computing concepts (AWS, Azure, or GCP).

  • Good understanding of version control systems (Git).

  • Familiarity with developing AI based solutions.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

The base pay range represents the anticipated low and high end of the pay range for this position. Actual pay rates will vary and will be based on various factors, such as your qualifications, skills, competencies, and proficiency for the role. Base pay is one component of WEX's total compensation package. Most sales positions are eligible for commission under the terms of an applicable plan. Non-sales roles are typically eligible for a quarterly or annual bonus based on their role and applicable plan.
