Overview

ABOUT THE POSITION

VHB's I-64 offices (Richmond, VA; Virginia Beach, VA) are seeking a Transportation/ Traffic Intern to join our team for the Summer 2027.

Our team works with public, private, and institutional clients to support a variety of projects. Our services include design of multilane highways and interchanges to the reconstruction of arterials and local roads, bridges, small intersection improvements, on- and off-street bicycle facilities, operational analysis, multimodal planning, conceptual design, traffic impact analysis, parking analysis, and safety evaluations. We collaborate across our footprint with numerous other VHB groups on many of our transformative projects.

Responsibilities

    Performing various aspects of discipline design as directed by a senior or lead Engineer including conceptual studies, program requirements, design analyses, calculations, systems selection and layout for transportation projects
  • Assist with the development of transportation planning and engineering solutions, including conceptual studies, design analyses, calculations, system selection, and project layouts under the direction of experienced engineers.
  • Support the preparation of schematic designs, design development documents, construction documents, technical reports, presentations, and other project materials.
  • Collect, compile, analyze, summarize, and visualize transportation and project-related data.
  • Perform field data collection, site visits, and other on-site project support activities, as needed.
  • Prepare written documents and technical materials, summarize information, and assist with assembling reports and presentations.
  • Apply VHB Practice and company standards and comply with applicable quality-control policies and procedures.
  • Participate in project and team meetings and coordinate with project managers, design managers, engineers, planners, and other technical professionals.
  • Collaborate with VHB staff, clients, and consultants to support the timely and successful advancement of projects.
  • Develop transportation analysis, design, communication, and project-delivery skills through hands-on assignments and mentorship.

Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a degree in civil engineering, transportation engineering, transportation planning, or a related field.

The hourly pay range for this position, located in Virginia, is $19 to $30. The actual hourly rate offered will be determined based on job-related factors, including geographic location, internal equity, experience, credentials, skills, education, work schedule, and other factors permitted by law. The posted hourly range reflects base pay only. Additional compensation and benefits available to eligible employees are outlined in our Total Rewards Program.
