Requisition Summary

This position is located within the Advanced Controls organization at the PACCAR Technical Center (PTC). The Project Engineer will independently manage major AI projects involving conventional engineering practices and complex features, with emphasis on engineering, verification and validation (V&V), and manufacturing-support applications.

The role develops, evaluates, and deploys practical AI solutions that improve engineering productivity, test and data workflows, and decision support. Typical deliverables include project plans, proof-of-concept demonstrations, reusable applications and workflows, data pipelines, documented processes, training materials, and implementation results.

The individual will coordinate major projects across PTC and applicable PACCAR divisions, serve as a technical resource to project teams and more junior personnel, and consult with supervision on unusual problems, significant scope changes, policy matters, or developments outside established project limits.

Job Functions / Responsibilities
  • Independently manage AI engineering projects with complex technical scope, including plans, milestones, risks, dependencies, deliverables, budgets, and status reporting
  • Lead development and deployment of AI and machine learning solutions that improve engineering, V&V, and manufacturing-support activities while coordinating cross-functional contributors
  • Develop AI-enabled tools, workflows, and automation for test execution, data analysis, anomaly detection, validation efficiency, documentation support, and engineering productivity across lab, HIL, system, and vehicle environments
  • Integrate approved AI methods into engineering and validation processes to improve data utilization, test coverage, repeatability, insight generation, quality, cost, and cycle time
  • Create proof-of-concept solutions and transition mature concepts into documented, reusable tools and processes for broader organizational adoption
  • Develop and maintain project data pipelines, datasets, models, interfaces, and technical documentation using structured engineering and software-development practices
  • Define and administer PTC AI governance processes, including project intake, evaluation, delivery planning, adoption tracking, ML Delivery Plan coordination, quality reviews, SharePoint content, and internal AI tool submissions
  • Support AI financial reporting by collecting, validating, documenting, and communicating realized savings, benefits, assumptions, evidence, and project status in coordination with project owners and Accounting
  • Facilitate AI project reviews with leadership, communicate project status and value realization, and support corrective actions to achieve approved business benefits
  • Lead AI adoption initiatives through training, demonstrations, onboarding guidance, and stakeholder engagement while identifying employee and organizational AI capability needs
  • Develop AI roadmaps aligned with organizational objectives, prepare technical and business justification for AI investments, and manage approved projects within authorization limits
  • Evaluate emerging AI technologies, recommend applicable solutions for PACCAR engineering challenges, maintain technical expertise, and provide mentoring, technical guidance, and communication of project outcomes to teams and leadership
  • Contribute to continuous improvement through development of new methodologies, tools, and process enhancements within the assigned area
Qualifications
  • 7+ years of applicable experience in a related engineering discipline
  • Demonstrated experience developing, evaluating, or deploying AI/ML solutions or advanced data-driven engineering tools.
  • Strong technical background in programming, data analysis, system integration, and structured engineering development practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently manage major technical projects with complex features using project-management techniques, procedures, and criteria.
  • Experience coordinating cross-functional contributors and influencing work without direct supervisory authority.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, technical-writing, presentation, and stakeholder-communication skills.
  • Ability to define problems, propose methods, and identify solutions across a broad scope using sound engineering judgment when information is ambiguous or incomplete.
  • Self-starter with initiative, adaptability, resourcefulness, and the ability to manage multiple priorities within establishedobjectives and limits.
Desired Qualifications
  • Advanced degree in AI, Data Science, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience applying AI in engineering, manufacturing, automotive, test, or V&V domains.
  • Experience with large language models (LLMs), model context protocol (MCP), robotic process automation (RPA), workflow automation, or AI-enabled software tools.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms, enterprise data pipelines, dashboards, SharePoint, and enterprise IT systems.
  • Experience documenting operational processes, supporting project-value or savings validation, and preparing periodic management reporting.
  • Experience developing and delivering technical demonstrations, training, or adoption activities for diverse engineering audiences.
  • Working knowledge of the software development lifecycle and V-cycle, including requirements development, system design, integration, and V&V activities.
  • Experience preparing or managing engineering capital project proposals, budgets, or implementation plans.
Education

Bachelor's Degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math (STEM) discipline required. Advanced Degree (Master's or Ph. D) or planned path to attainment desired.
