The position is intended to enhance existing degree programs rather than establish a new program. It will expand students' understanding of the underlying basics and history of music as an art form or career choice and the Conservatory's established undergraduate and graduate curriculum. We seek candidates who:

The UMKC Conservatory is seeking a qualified tenure-track Assistant Professor in Musicology, with an open call for specialization. The hired individual will teach graduate period and genre courses, undergraduate music history classes, general education classes with a music focus, graduate research & bibliography, and graduate seminars in areas of specialized interest. Expectations also include advising of Master's theses and DMA documents; building and sustaining a national profile of research and publication that reflects the career of a consistently productive scholar; serving on appropriate student and faculty committees and maintain active participation in other Conservatory activities; contributing to all facets of the Division of Music and the UMKC Conservatory, including academic, performance, and service components characteristic of a Conservatory within a university, such as the support and mentorship of a multifarious student body; making contributions that enrich the cultural environment and the quality of life in the greater Kansas City metropolitan community.

• Evidence of emerging or established productivity as a scholar at the national level, and research areas should complement the existing faculty;
• Evidence of a successful and innovative approach to music history pedagogy as applied to a university setting;
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively with both graduate and undergraduate students and to support students of varied identities and experiences;
• Ph.D. in Musicology, Music History, or a comparative field (ABD considered, as long as degree is completed by start of appointment).

This is a 9-month, tenure-track, benefit-eligible ranked faculty position to begin with the Fall 2027 semester. Salary is commensurate with experience and credentials. Our academic workloads and schedules provide for a positive work/life balance.
