POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCH SCHOLAR

A postdoctoral research scholar position is immediately available in the Department of Radiation Oncology at the University of Iowa. The successful candidate will participate in research projects focused on artificial intelligence (AI) and medical imaging.

The ideal candidate will have (or be soon completing) a doctoral degree in computer science, medical physics, biomedical/electrical engineering, or a related field. The candidate must be highly motivated with evidence of productivity from peer-reviewed publications and scientific presentations. Candidates with a research interest or background in machine/deep learning, medical imaging, image processing, computer programming, and applications of engineering tools in cancer or other medical scenarios are strongly encouraged to apply. The candidate should ideally have strong programming skills in Python, C/C++, or Matlab. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are desirable.

The successful candidate will be joining a team of radiation oncologists, medical physicists, biomedical engineers, and cancer biologists, and will contribute to the ongoing work in the development, validation, and clinical translation of AI-powered medical image analysis algorithm in cancer and other diseases. The candidate will also have the opportunity to contribute to a range of projects including AI-powered image-guided radiation therapy, multimodality data integration in cancer diagnosis and treatment, foundation models, vision language and large language models, and imaging biomarker development.

The initial appointment for this position is for one year, with the potential for extension for a total appointment of up to 4 years based on interest and performance. This position is available immediately and will begin at a mutually agreed upon date. Salary is based on years of experience after obtaining the Ph.D. degree and is determined by the Graduate College of the University of Iowa (https://grad.uiowa.edu/postdoctoral-affairs/postdoctoral-employment-standards/wages). Applicants must be eligible to work in the United States.

Required Qualifications:

1. Completion of Ph.D. or M.D./Ph.D. in computer science, medical physics, biomedical/electrical engineering, or a similar area of study.

2. Evidence of productivity from peer-reviewed publications and scientific presentations.

3. Excellent project management and communication skills.

Desirable Qualifications:

1. Research skills: machine/deep learning, medical imaging, image processing, computer programming, and applications of engineering tools in cancer or other medical scenarios.

2. Experience with image segmentation, classification, and registration.

3. Competency in programming skills in Python, C/C++, or Matlab.
