Job Summary NiSource is currently seeking Summer Electric Engineering Interns at our IN locations. Successful applicants will become integral members of the department while learning within a team environment, completing meaningful tasks and collaborating with team members and leaders on important projects. These positions will be a great opportunity for the candidate desiring to launch their career in the Engineering field. Successful applicants will build professional relationships with other interns and all levels of NiSource personnel while participating in rewarding professional development exercises and fun, team-building activities. Interns will obtain a broad overview of NiSource's operations and current events in the utilities industry. This is a 12-week summer internship program starting in May 2027, for students entering their junior or senior year in fall 2027. The role is based in Gary, IN. Candidates must reside within 50 miles of the reporting location to be eligible.
Essential Functions
- Opportunities are available in the following disciplines:
- Electric Major Projects
- Supports Electric Major Project's team by assisting Project Managers, Assistant Project Managers and Project Specialists.
- Manages the application of permits, preparation and execution of job orders, procurement of materials, processing of material invoices, tracking of materials, and preparation and submittal of close-out packets.
- Maintains and monitors project files for accuracy and completeness.
- Supports the planning, estimating, scheduling, risk analysis for electric projects
- Manages projects in accordance with all applicable codes and standards, ensuring safe reliable service to customers in an efficient, economical manner. Collaborate and strategize with peers within NiSource companies and in industry to ensure cost effective project management.
- Compliance Training
- Under general supervision, the Compliance Training intern will gather content to develop or enhance training material for the compliance training team.
- Develops Instructor-led and Computer Based Training modules for various departments and areas.
- Reviews and assists with the development of new course content as needed.
- Complies with all NERC training requirements within standard PER-005 and adheres to ethics policies.
- Assists with the support of the maintenance and improvement of systems and software programs used by the NERC Compliance, CIP Compliance, Operations Technology, and Training area.
Required Qualifications For Position
- Current student of an accredited college/university pursuing a four-year degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology.
- Must have completed at least one year of undergraduate study
- Ability to work 40 hrs/week in-person during the summer
- Proficiency with PC applications and prefer strong skills with MS Excel & Access
- Proven communication skills
- Good written and oral communication skills.
- Good planning, organizational, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Ability to perform duties effectively at all times.
- GPA 3.0 and above
- Authorized to work in the United States without requiring sponsorship
- DL NUMBER - Driver License, Valid and in State Must have a valid driver's license Upon Hire

Salary Range*: $18.80 - $31.70
