Postdoctoral Research Associate School of Natural Resources and the Environment - Wildlife and Fisheries Science Program West Virginia University The School of Natural Resources and the Environment - Wildlife and Fisheries Science Program at West Virginia University (WVU) invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate. Under the leadership of Amy Welsh, the incumbent in this position will conduct research in the field of Conservation Genetics. This is a full-time, 12-month, benefits-eligible position. The School of Natural Resources and the Environment at West Virginia University is searching for a post-doctoral researcher to study the genomics of brook trout in West Virginia. Genomic tools will be used to determine population structure and diversity of native brook trout populations with an emphasis on biogeography and an assessment of hatchery influence. The researcher will also work closely with the state agency to interpret results in a management context and develop conservation strategies based on the generated data. The researcher will also have the opportunity to assist with other genomics projects in the laboratory, generate publications from existing datasets, and help mentor undergraduate and graduate students. Funding for one year will be provided. Responsibilities The post-doctoral research associate will be responsible for: 1) using bioinformatic approaches to analyze brook trout genomic data, 2) conducting genomic laboratory work as needed, 3) writing publications for peer-reviewed journals, 4) mentoring undergraduate and graduate students, 5) working with agency managers on the interpretation of results in a management context. Qualifications
Professional Qualifications Ph.D. in fisheries, wildlife, genetics, or a related field. Laboratory experience in genomic techniques and bioinformatic data analysis experience required. The successful candidate may be permitted to begin employment prior to degree confirmation with a letter certifying the trainee has completed all degree requirements from their university.
