Advanced Practice Provider (APP/PA/NP) Pediatric Gastroenterology

UVA Health Children's is seeking an Advanced Practice Provider to join Pediatric Gastroenterology with a focus on children with feeding difficulties and gastrostomy tubes. This newly created position will improve access and continuity across inpatient and outpatient settings while providing specialized support for children and families with feeding and nutritional needs.

The APP will work closely with Pediatric Gastroenterology physicians and APPs, Nutrition, Pediatric Surgery, Complex Care, and other pediatric specialists. This is a Monday-Friday position with a combination of inpatient and outpatient responsibilities and no routine weekend coverage.

The Role

Responsibilities will include:

• Evaluate and manage children with feeding difficulties and gastrostomy-related needs across inpatient and outpatient settings.
• Provide follow-up care after gastrostomy placement and ongoing management for children with gastrostomy tubes.
• Perform gastrostomy tube changes and assess tube-site and skin concerns.
• Provide education and support to patients and caregivers regarding gastrostomy management and care.
• Collaborate with gastroenterologists and nutritionists to develop and coordinate individualized feeding and nutritional plans.
• Coordinate care with Pediatric Surgery, Complex Care, and other pediatric specialists as appropriate.
• Develop an independent patient schedule as clinical knowledge and autonomy grow.
• Help improve access, continuity, and transitions between inpatient and outpatient care.

This position is well suited for an APP with a strong pediatric clinical foundation who enjoys patient and family education, multidisciplinary care, and developing longitudinal relationships with children and families. Pediatric GI, nutrition, feeding, or gastrostomy experience is preferred; new graduates with strong clinical preparation are encouraged to apply.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education: Graduate of an accredited graduate school of nursing or physician assistant program with a master's degree.

Experience: Department and unit specific.

Licensure: License or license eligible as an Advance Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner, and Physician Associate) as set forth by the state of Virginia. If Nurse Practitioner, license to Practice as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia is required. Must demonstrate and maintain all credentialing and licensing requirements of UVA Health System, the Virginia Board of Medicine or the Virginia Board of Nursing, and appropriate certifying bodies. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required. Current PALS/NRP, as required, specific to position. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) as required, specific to position.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Job requires standing for prolonged periods, frequently bending/stooping, reaching (overhead, extensive, and repetitive); Repetitive motion: computer keyboard. Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; Attention to detail and ability to write legibly; Ability to lift/push/pull 50 - 100lbs. May be exposed to noise, radiation, radioactive materials, blood/body fluids and infectious disease.
