SUMMARY OF POSITION

The Senior Sustainability Specialist is responsible for leading and supporting sustainability, environmental compliance, and product-related regulatory initiatives across the organization. This position serves as a key cross-functional resource, partnering with Operations, Procurement, Supply Chain, R&D, Marketing, Sales, Quality, Manufacturing, and external stakeholders to advance sustainability objectives, support compliance requirements, and drive continuous improvement.



The role focuses on integrating sustainability principles into products, packaging, sourcing decisions, and business processes while supporting customer requirements, supplier engagement, environmental reporting, and emerging regulatory obligations. Operating with a high degree of autonomy, this individual manages complex projects, influences stakeholders without direct authority, and helps deliver measurable business and sustainability outcomes.



ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.



Program Leadership & Strategy



  • Lead sustainability initiatives that support company goals, customer expectations, and regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor emerging sustainability trends, regulations, and stakeholder expectations and assess potential business impacts.
  • Develop implementation plans, performance metrics, and dashboards to track progress.
  • Communicate sustainability risks, opportunities, and recommendations to leadership and key stakeholders.



Product, Packaging & Regulatory Sustainability



  • Lead or support implementation of sustainability and product-related regulatory programs impacting products, packaging, and operations.
  • Monitor emerging regulations and industry trends, assess business impacts, and translate requirements into practical business processes and implementation plans.
  • Lead or support Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) compliance, reporting, and data management activities.
  • Partner with R&D, Marketing, Product Management, and Operations to integrate sustainability considerations into products and packaging throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Support initiatives related to sustainable materials, recycled content, packaging optimization, waste reduction, and circular economy principles.
  • Conduct sustainability assessments, regulatory evaluations, and gap analyses to identify risks, opportunities, and improvement initiatives.
  • Develop and maintain processes, documentation, and governance frameworks supporting sustainability and regulatory compliance objectives.



Supply Chain Sustainability & Customer Support



  • Lead sustainability initiatives that support company goals, customer expectations, and regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor emerging sustainability trends, regulations, and stakeholder expectations and assess potential business impacts.
  • Develop implementation plans, performance metrics, and dashboards to track progress.
  • Communicate sustainability risks, opportunities, and recommendations to leadership and key stakeholders.

QUALIFICATIONS

JOB REQUIREMENTS



  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Engineering, Environmental Science, EHS, Sustainability, Quality or related field. A Master's degree or additional relevant certifications is a plus.
  • 7+ years of experience in sustainability, environmental compliance, EHS, product compliance, supply chain sustainability, quality systems, ESG programs, regulatory affairs, or related disciplines.
  • Demonstrated success leading cross-functional initiatives with measurable business impact.
  • Experience working in manufacturing, industrial products, packaging, chemicals, consumer products, or related industries preferred.



PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Ability to lift loads up to 40 pounds.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time in an office setting.
  • Sufficient dexterity to use a computer at reasonable speeds.
  • Ability to use PPE for periods of time spent on the shop floor.



WORK ENVIRONMENT

This is a fast-paced work environment with consistent pressure to complete duties as outlined above which requires ability to manage multiple projects at a detailed level and provide support to internal departments in a fast-changing environment. Many duties listed above are time-sensitive and have strict deadlines for completion.
