Position Highlights

The University of Arizona College of Medicine - Phoenix is seeking a vice chair of research in the Department of Urology. This is an opportunity for an outstanding leader with a national/international reputation as a respected and accomplished academician, clinician, educator and collaborator with a proven track record in innovating research.

This position reports directly to the chair of the Department of Urology within the College of Medicine - Phoenix for all academic activities. Consistent with the Academic Affiliation Agreement (AAA) between the University of Arizona and Banner Health, the vice chair will have a matrix reporting relationship to the CEO of Banner - University Medical Group (B-UMG) and CEO of Banner - University Medical Center Phoenix (B-UMCP) for all clinical activities conducted at B-UMCP.

The vice chair will assist the department in developing a research vision and infrastructure, seeking grant and other funding opportunities, serving as a principal investigator, developing research plans and methods, implanting and managing research studies and disseminating research findings. In addition, this individual will be expected to develop collaborative relationships with other university, college, clinical and community partners.

The successful candidate will fulfill the responsibilities of a faculty member in the Department of Urology, actively participate in teaching, clinical service and/or scholarly work, and must qualify for an appointment at the rank of associate or full professor.

The successful candidate will meet the requirements of a career track faculty according to the College and University guidelines.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement departmental research vision and infrastructure focusing on clinical trials, grantsmanship and original research.
  • Build internal and external relationships to inspire and promote academic collaborations across the health system.
  • Promote and provide a research and teaching environment of the highest quality and integrity.
  • Foster programs of national distinction through innovation and collaboration.
  • Mentor medical students, residents, fellows and faculty.
  • Engage in teaching and research activities for students, residents and fellows.
  • Participate on appropriate department and/or College committees as well as professional organizations, as appropriate.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Must
    possess an MD or equivalent degree from an accredited instruction.
  • Be
    eligible for a University of Arizona academic appointment at the associate
    professor level or higher.
  • Be
    board certified in Urology and be eligible for unrestricted medical
    licensure in the State of Arizona.
  • Be
    eligible for medical staff membership at Banner - University Phoenix.
  • Foster clinical and research programs of national distinction through innovation and interdisciplinary collaboration.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Have experience and national/international recognition in clinical trials.
  • Demonstrate experience with hospital partnership and collaboration.
  • Have developed a research portfolio including NIH or industry grants.
  • Be experienced as a PI.
