About the Job

The Eli Coleman Institute for Sexual and Gender Health (ISGH) in the Department of Family Medicine and Community Health at the University of Minnesota Medical School is seeking applicants for the Joycelyn Elders Endowed Chair in Sexual Health Education. This is a tenured or tenure track position that we anticipate filling at the Associate or Full Professor level, although we will consider an advanced Assistant Professor. The ideal candidate has a doctorate in psychology, medicine, health education, family social science, marriage and family therapy, or a related field.

The position entails directing, developing, and expanding the sexual and gender health education activities of ISGH. The faculty member will serve as Director of Education for ISGH and be responsible for medical school curriculum, graduate school curriculum (two master's degrees and several graduate certificates), postdoctoral fellow training, and other educational courses and activities. This position also involves developing and maintaining an active research program and collaborating in leadership toward our mission to promote positive sexual and gender health at the local, national, and global levels.

Candidates should be recognized nationally and internationally as a leader in sexual health education and/or sexual and gender health. They should have training and experience in sexual and gender health education and research. They should demonstrate an ability to obtain external funding for research and scholarly activities, including grants from Federal agencies and other peer-reviewed funding sources, relevant to sexual health education. Applicants will need to present evidence of research and significant scholarly work.

While not required, preference will be given to applicants with a documented record of excellence as an educator, experience in curriculum development and evaluation, experience working in an academic health care setting, and certification as a sexuality educator.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Doctoral level training in Psychology, Medicine, Health Education, Family Social Science, Marriage and Family Therapy or closely related fields.
  • Training and experience in sexual health education teaching and research.
  • Demonstrated ability to obtain federally funded research or training grants.
  • Evidence of ability to publish peer-reviewed research and give peer-reviewed presentations relevant to sexual health education.
  • Recognized nationally and internationally as a leader in sexual health education.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Documented record of excellence as an educator.
  • Experience in curriculum development and evaluation.
  • Experience in working in an academic health care setting.
  • Certification as a Certified Sexuality Educator.
About the Department

The Department of Family Medicine and Community Health at the University of Minnesota was created more than 45 years ago in response to a legislative mandate to train primary care physicians. Since then, we have been leaders in transforming the specialty through education, research and patient care. We are the academic sponsor of either family medicine residencies; five in the Twin Cities, three in Greater Minnesota. We are involved in medical student education activities across the Medical School's two campuses: Twin Cities and Duluth. We sponsor four fellowship programs; Sports medicine, hospice and palliative medicine, behavioral medicine and human sexuality and offer continuing medical education opportunities. Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $186,452 - $200,452; depending on education/qualifications/experience
