The Nurse Manager is responsible for the daily operations and clinical oversight of the Hematology Department, ensuring effective nursing services 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, in collaboration with the Director of Nursing. The Nurse Manager provides leadership and oversight of nursing staff to promote high-quality, safe, and patient-centered care and is accountable for staffing and resource management, performance management, quality and patient safety metrics, regulatory and organizational compliance, budget management, and staff development. This role collaborates with peers, supervisors, physicians, advanced practice providers, direct reports, and interdisciplinary team members across the organization to achieve excellent patient outcomes, operational effectiveness, staff engagement, professional growth, and a workplace of choice. As a successful candidate, you will:
Lead and supervise a team of nurses and healthcare professionals within a Hematology Unit. Ensure adequate staffing levels, manage scheduling, and support nursing staff in the delivery of care. Promote a positive work environment that encourages collaboration, professional growth, and staff engagement. Conduct performance evaluations, provide coaching, and ensure staff development and training. Ensure the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based nursing care for patients with homological conditions, including leukemia, lymphoma, anemia, and clotting disorders. Advocate for patients and families by providing education on treatments, potential side effects, and disease management. Ensure compliance with hospital policies and regulations, including patient safety and infection control. Oversee daily operations of the Hematology Unit, ensuring efficient patient flow and effective use of resources. Participate in budget planning and financial management, ensuring cost-effective care delivery while maintaining quality standards. Ensure proper inventory management, ordering of medical supplies, and equipment maintenance. Serve as a liaison between nursing staff, physicians, social workers, and other multidisciplinary team members to ensure comprehensive patient care. Facilitate regular team meetings to discuss patient care issues, staff concerns, and department goals. Maintain clear and effective communication with patients, families, and other departments. Implement evidence-based practices, guidelines, and protocols to enhance patient outcomes. Ensure compliance with regulatory bodies, including The Joint Commission and other accrediting organizations. Support staff in maintaining certifications and continuing education to promote professional development. Development and implement educational programs for nursing staff on hematology-specific care, new treatments, and procedures.
Qualifications
Your qualifications should include:
- Bachelor's degree or master's degree in nursing is required.
- 3 years of experience in an area of expertise relevant to the department with demonstrated progressive leadership growth. (outpatient infusion or inpatient oncology unit)
- Current California Registered Nurse license
- Current BLS from the American Heart Association
- Current ACLS from the American Heart Association
- Relevant experience with oncology, chemotherapy administration background
- ONS Chemotherapy Immunotherapy certification or obtained within 6 months of hire.
- National Certification (must be obtained within 12 months of hire or transfer) OCN or BMTCN preferred.
