| Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit |
Gillings Advancement offers a variety of services to facilitate the School's research, teaching and service mission, promoting the development of public health policy, publicizing School activites and public health issues, and generating financial support from alumni, foundations, corporations and the NC Legislature. The office also coordinates special events. |
| Position Summary |
The
UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health is seeking an Assistant Director of Annual Giving and Alumni Engagement to develop and implement programs and strategies that strengthen relationships between the School and its alumni while supporting a culture of philanthropy and engagement across the Gillings community.
The Assistant Director will lead a comprehensive portfolio of alumni engagement programs and activities designed to connect alumni with the School, its students and one another. The position will serve as the primary staff liaison to the Gillings School Alumni Association Board, manage alumni volunteer programs, collaborate with departments and programs on alumni engagement efforts, and oversee the coordination of communications to Gillings alumni.
The Assistant Director will also play a key role in implementing the School's annual giving strategy, with primary responsibility for coordinating broad-based and University-wide annual giving initiatives. The position will serve as the School's primary liaison to UNC's central Annual Giving team and lead Gillings' participation in GiveUNC and other University-wide annual giving campaigns and appeals.
Working collaboratively with colleagues across Advancement, Communications, Student Affairs, academic departments and programs, and University Development, the Assistant Director will use data and best practices to develop effective engagement and giving programs, evaluate results, and identify opportunities to deepen alumni involvement with Gillings.

| Minimum Education and Experience Requirements |
Minimum of a bachelor's degree required (or foreign degree equivalent) with related experience. For positions with responsibility for direct solicitation of gifts and funds, a minimum of 1 year of professional-level, direct solicitation/fundraising experience is required. |

A strong understanding of the nature and purpose of higher education; exceptional interpersonal skills; strong written and oral communication skills; a spirit of creativity; an ability to handle multiple priorities; strong organizational and implementation skills; an ability to perform well under pressure and handle stress effectively; excellent computer and software skills; and the ability to work collegially and effectively as a member of
UNC Gillings and the larger
UNC community. |
| Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience |
Degree in public health or related field preferred. The preferred candidate will possess fundraising experience or related experience as well as experience managing volunteers. Candidates should demonstrate an understanding of the basic principles and techniques of successful annual fundraising/alumni engagement as they pertain to strategy and analysis; communications; data management; solicitation in various forms (direct mail, electronic, social media, by phone and in person); and effective methods of donor and alumni research. |
