DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position focuses on maintaining, repairing, and inspecting a wide range of vehicles and equipment used by the agency. The work supports safe operations and dependable performance across the fleet. As a Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic, you will perform the following duties:
- Equipment Repair: Repair vehicles, equipment, and major parts such as brakes, clutches, and transmissions
- Preventative Work: Carry out routine maintenance tasks including tune ups, tire changes, and system adjustments
- State Inspections: Complete safety and emissions inspections, apply stickers, and record inspection results
- Diagnostics: Identify problems using diagnostic tools and select correct procedures and parts for repairs
- Small Equipment Care: Maintain and repair motorized hand tools including chain saws, compressors, and trimmers
- Safety Practices: Keep work areas safe, report hazards, and take steps to prevent injuries

- Full-time employment
- Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
- Work hours are subject to change based on operational needs.
- Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
- Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $56,607.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Successful completion of the commonwealth's Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic Trainee program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
- Two years of journey level mechanic experience in the diagnosis and repair of automobiles, heavy trucks, or construction equipment, which includes one year of experience in the diagnosis and repair of diesel vehicles or equipment; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Special Requirements:
- This position requires possession of an active Class A or Class B Commercial Driver's License.
- This position requires an active Pennsylvania Class 7 Inspection Mechanic Certification on the first day of employment.
Additional Requirements:
- You must possess a valid Medical Examiner's Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations at time of application.
- This position is subject to Drug and Alcohol testing in accordance with Federal Regulations.
- Employees must obtain an active certification issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation in the operation of heavy trucks and loaders within the probationary period.
- This position requires the employee to obtain a Tank Vehicle Endorsement (N) within the probationary period.
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
