Position Summary

The Department
of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences
at the University of New Mexico (UNM)
Health Sciences Center is expanding and seeks an outstanding oculoplastic/oculofacial
and orbital surgeon
to join our rapidly growing academic department.

The successful
candidate will join a collaborative and dynamic ophthalmology service dedicated
to providing exceptional oculoplastic, orbital, lacrimal, and reconstructive
eye care to the patients of New Mexico and the surrounding region. As part of
the UNM Health System, the Eye Clinics offer a rewarding blend of tertiary
referral care and safety-net medicine, providing exposure to a broad spectrum
of complex ophthalmic disease while serving one of the most medically diverse
populations in the Southwest.

The incoming
physician will have the opportunity to join and grow an existing comprehensive
oculoplastic surgery practice, including functional and cosmetic eyelid
surgery, orbital disease, lacrimal disorders, periocular and orbital trauma,
and ophthalmic oncology in collaboration with multidisciplinary partners.
Opportunities also exist to expand aesthetic oculoplastic services based on the
candidate's interests and expertise. The successful candidate will work closely
with colleagues in ophthalmology, otolaryngology, neurosurgery, dermatology,
facial and general plastic surgery, oncology, trauma, and other specialties
while sharing general ophthalmology call responsibilities with existing faculty
and actively participating in the education of residents from multiple
specialties as well as medical students.

Our department
has recently established a three-resident-per-class ophthalmology residency
program and continues to experience significant growth. The successful
candidate will have a unique opportunity to help build and shape the department
while addressing a significant regional need for specialized oculoplastic and
orbital care throughout New Mexico and the surrounding states.

Candidates are
expected to demonstrate a strong commitment to outstanding patient care,
teaching, and scholarly activity within an academic environment. Opportunities
for clinical research, clinical trials, and multidisciplinary collaboration are
available through our growing research enterprise, which includes dedicated
research coordinators, technicians, and faculty collaborators.

UNM is
committed to building a healthy, well-educated, and economically vibrant New
Mexico. The Health Sciences Center and School of Medicine continue to
experience exciting growth under new leadership and are dedicated to advancing
state-of-the-art patient care, innovative research, and excellence in medical
education.

Rank and salary
will be commensurate with experience and credentials.
