Summary:
The Director of Finance, UNC SOM is a professional, managerial, and leadership position directly responsible for overseeing the daily operations to include system development and integration, financial management, financial analysis, and accounting processes. The Director reports directly to a higher-level executive.

Responsibilities:
1. Financial Stewardship - Develops and submits budgetary requests on or before stated deadlines. Monitors and analyzes budgetary trends. Implements strategies to increase revenue/decrease costs and cost-effectively manage personnel, supply, and equipment resources. Makes necessary adjustments to ensure goals are achieved and/or meet budget projections. Recognizes opportunities for increases in productivity, cost savings, and revenue generation. Provides leadership and guidance in fiscal matters to ensure adherence with evolving State, Federal, GASB and Internal Audit guidelines. Responsible for interpreting rules and regulations, often applying judgment without the benefit of specific policy or precedent. The Director manages the production of financial statements at the SOM level. This requires a significant degree of accounting expertise combined with professional demeanor. The position provides oversight of the financial accounting functions, including monitoring and reporting of expenditures for the SOM. This requires in-depth knowledge of fund types and restrictions, accounting regulations, and systems. The Director is responsible for summarizing outstanding accounting and process issues to the Associate Dean of Finance on a regular basis so that exposures can be reviewed as to risk of impact.

Accesses and utilizes appropriate administrative/ clinical/financial systems. Acquires and maintains quantitative skills for data analysis. Leads in change efforts for improvement in work quality.

4. Results Driven - Exceeds departmental and organizational goals and customer expectations. Makes decisions that produce high-quality results by applying knowledge, analyzing problems, and calculating risks. Delivers high-quality services and is committed to continuous improvement. Understands the overall financial performance of the organization and applies financial concepts and practices to establish and maintain realistic budgets. Uses financial information to monitor overall financial status of operations.

Education Requirements:
* Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance (or substantial equivalent with concentration in business administration).
Licensure/Certification Requirements:
* None required.
Professional Experience Requirements:
* Seven (7) years of progressive experience in health care budgeting/finance. Proven experience in managing multiple and complex projects.
Knowledge/Skills/and Abilities Requirements:
* Understands and applies principles, procedures, requirements, regulations, and policies related to specialized expertise.
