Who we are looking for:

We are searching for a Buyer II based out of our corporate headquarters located in Harvey, IL. Reporting to the Sr. Commodity Manager, this role will be responsible for all aspects of procurement to provide best value and competitive by applying strategic sourcing and purchasing expertise and will utilize structured tactical and strategic sourcing methodologies to manage assigned indirect categories (e.g., IT, MRO, facilities, professional services and other categories as assigned to support Atkore's Regional Service Center (RSC) networks and other plant operations.

What you'll do:



  • Develops supply and sourcing strategies with research and planning, including simple to complex requests for information, requests for proposals, and competitive bids
  • Leads sourcing initiatives including timelines and deliverables to drive best value and effectively communicate status, work activities, and issues to leadership
  • Research cost saving opportunities, presents opportunities to stakeholders, gains acceptance, and drives effective cost savings programs
  • Develop strategic supplier relationships to leverage suppliers that support and drive business strategies (i.e. national agreements/solutions, innovation)
  • Manages supplier compliance with agreements within the scope and authority of the position
  • Monitors and supplier's performance against goals, analyzes and documents results and initiates appropriate responses to satisfy requirements
  • Manages performance and development of suppliers to meet specified KPI targets and goals including administration of supplier evaluation programs
  • Negotiate contracts, improve prices and terms of business with suppliers
  • Develop strong cross-functional relationships with departments external to Procurement to achieve goals and improvement opportunities in a Continuous Improvement (CI) culture
  • Applies expertise to recommend cost effective alternatives to meet needs and promote innovative solutions to drive growth
  • Assists with development, implementation and management of effective procurement best practices, policies and procedures
  • Develop a partnership and process for the centralized procurement activities to support the regional service centers (RSC) and Atkore facilities across North America.
  • Create purchase orders and facilitate all changes and expedites; reconcile pending invoices and updates master file records in JDE or other ERP systems.
  • Participates in strategic sourcing decisions to achieve corporate goals and objectives.
  • Facilitate meetings between company and vendor representatives to ensure open communication regarding all issues, including quality, delivery and cost when necessary.
  • Participate in Kaizen and TPI events to support continuous improvement and Lean initiatives.
  • Ability to work with all departments including Quality, Logistics, Finance, and Manufacturing to obtain the best pricing, quality, service and delivery.
  • Manages Ad hoc projects and reports to support the development and implementation of MRP systems; manages the databases associated with the procurement modules.


    What you'll bring:



    • BS Degree preferred.
    • Minimum of 2+ years' experience in sourcing indirect materials
    • Ability to work independently
    • Advanced time management and analytical skills
    • Proven working experience as a project administrator
    • Strong analytical and Microsoft Office software skills
    • Excellent communication skills written and verbal
    • Ability to adapt well to change
    • Strong attention to detail
    • Strong proven leadership capability
    • Ability to work independently and collaborate with others with minimal supervision.
    • Ability to work in a team environment and as an individual contributor.


      Within 3 months, you'll:



      • Complete an abbreviated new hire "Immersion" to become familiar with the RSC networks and stakeholders.
      • Develop relationships with the key stakeholders for this role.
      • Understand the role of Buyer II and link value of the position across Atkore and the RSC network.
      • Evaluate sourcing initiatives to generate cost savings in multiple categories.
      • Collaborate cross-functionally with others within the organization.
      • Understand JDE and demonstrate proficient use of the purchasing systems and procedures.


      Within 6 months, you'll:



      • Understand the business well enough to own and drive operational activities with minimal internal support.
      • Maintain and be accountable for KPI reporting while actively participating in Lean Daily Management activities.
      • Lead one Kaizen event to drive process improvement at an RSC facility or Atkore facility.
      • Assumed ownership of targeted locations and accountable for performance expectations.


      Within 12 months, you'll:



      • Deliver cost savings goals and achieve established objectives.
      • Own and maintain master data for assigned locations.
      • Be developing and driving best practices and demonstrating an ability to get results through influencing others.

        As of the date of this posting, a good faith estimate of the current pay for this position is $62,800 - $86,350. Placement in the range depends on several factors including, but not limited to, specific competencies, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, relevant experience, skills, seniority, performance, shift, travel requirements, and business or organizational needs and may change over time. Other compensation may include, but not limited to, overtime, shift differentials, bonuses, commissions, stock, and other incentives.
