Neurologist

The University of New Mexico
Department of Neurology seeks a neuromuscular neurologist to join our faculty.
We are looking for a dedicated clinician-educator with expertise in
neuromuscular disorders and a commitment to providing outstanding patient care
in the outpatient setting at the University of New Mexico Hospital Clinical
Neurosciences Center.

Our neuromuscular faculty provides
comprehensive care for the full spectrum of neuromuscular disorders, including
peripheral neuropathies, motor neuron disease, neuromuscular junction
disorders, muscular dystrophies, inflammatory and inherited myopathies,
hereditary neuropathies, and complex nerve and muscle disorders.

Clinical responsibilities include
outpatient patient care, electrodiagnostic testing, neuromuscular ultrasound,
and the management of patients receiving advanced therapies for neuromuscular
disease, including infusion-based biologic treatments and gene-targeted
therapies.

Academic responsibilities include
participation in the teaching of medical students, residents, and fellows and
research activities of the department.

The successful candidate is expected
to have excellent communications skills and the ability to work collaboratively
in interdisciplinary teams.

Neuromuscular Neurology at UNM:

The neuromuscular section benefits
from foundation-supported philanthropic funding with a strong history of
continued investment to advance clinical care, research and education.
Multidisciplinary ALS and Muscular Dystrophy clinics are recognized as certified
Care Centers by their respective national organizations and are supported by
external funding.

New Mexico is home to the largest
known population of individuals with Oculopharyngeal Muscular Dystrophy (OPMD)
in the world, providing unique opportunities for clinical care, education, and
research.

UNM Department of Neurology:

The Department of Neurology includes
43 faculty members across a broad range of clinical and research disciplines.
The department supports vibrant clinical programs, basic science and clinical
research initiatives, and well-established adult and child neurology residency
programs.

Fellowship training opportunities
include a clinical neurophysiology fellowship that trains two fellows annually,
along with additional subspecialty educational programs.

University of New Mexico Hospital and
School of Medicine:

University of New Mexico Hospital is
the state's only Level I Trauma Center and serves as New Mexico's primary
academic medical center and tertiary referral center. The UNM School of
Medicine is committed to excellence in patient care, education, research, and
service to the diverse communities of New Mexico.

The University of New Mexico campus
is located adjacent to the medical center and offers the resources, cultural
opportunities, and academic environment of a major research university.

About Albuquerque, New Mexico:

Albuquerque is a beautiful city with
the 10,000 ft Sandia Mountains to the east and mesa desert to the west. The
beautiful high desert environment provides more than 310 days of sunshine and
the variety of all four seasons. Temperatures rarely get to 100F in the summer
with humidity running in the teens. It is ideal for outdoor activities and
sports year-round including running, hiking, biking and skiing. Albuquerque is
1 hour from Santa Fe, NM and 2.5 hours from Taos, NM, both world famous for
their art and culture. New Mexico is multicultural and diverse with 19
indigenous native pueblos, the Navajo reservation and three Apache tribal

Minimum Qualifications:

• MD, DO, or equivalent medical degree
• Board certified or board eligible in neurology
• Completion of an adult neurology residency by the start date
• Eligibility for medical licensure in the State of New Mexico
• Eligible to work in the United States

Preferred Qualifications:

• Completion of a neuromuscular or clinical neurophysiology fellowship by the start date
• Experience diagnosing and managing patients with neuromuscular disorders
• Expertise in electrodiagnostic testing (EMG/NCS); experience with neuromuscular ultrasound is desirable
• Interest in neuromuscular clinical research and/or scholarly activity
• Commitment to medical education and mentorship of learners
• A demonstrated commitment to cultivate an understanding of the rich and varied cultures of New Mexico and to the success of the University's mission to serve local and global communities.
