Description

Summary:

Performs polysomnograms/multiple sleep latency tests including scoring according to established standards and practices. Assists in the training of new personnel. Performs clerical duties in support of the above.

Responsibilities:


  • Performs PSG/MSLTS that meet St. Vincent Hospital and national AASM standards to enable physician to reach an accurate diagnosis.
  • Scores PSG/MSLTS according to published AASM and departmental standards to facilitate accurate diagnosis. Scoring is expected to be performed when monitoring patients.
  • Assists in the development of department protocols; assessment of new equipment and development of Quality Management programs.
  • Assists in the training of new staff.
  • Performs patient intake. Completes necessary patient registration in the EPIC system prior to patient prep. Reviews questionnaires, documents medication usage. Explains procedure to patient and what to expect.
  • Calibrates and adjusts equipment in accordance with standard practices. Maintains equipment in good working condition and in accordance with electrical safety and infection control policies.
  • Continuously monitors patient and is prepared to intervene appropriately in an emergency. Is aware of all hospital safety procedures and maintains CPR certification.
  • Documents significant events and recording conditions to ensure accurate analysis of the tracing in accordance with policies and AASM standard.
  • Maintains HIPPA confidentiality.
  • Ensures Center is set-up and ready to go prior to patient's arrival to include sleep room prep, laundry/linens. Nourishment center cleaned and stocked. Prep rooms are clean and ready for patients.
  • Ensures a.m. duties are completed to include rooms prepared and cleaned, linens changed, equipment cleaned, and restocking is performed

Requirements:

Education:


  • High school or equivalent. Associate degree in applied sciences preferred. Graduate of an accredited polysomnographic program preferred.

Certificaiton/Licenses:


  • BLS certification required. RRT-SDS, RST or R.P.S.G.T. required.

Skills:


  • Effective interpersonal skills
  • Basic clerical, office, computer and keyboarding
  • Legible handwriting, good telephone skills
  • Able to maintain composure under stress
  • Perform PSG/MSLTS, score records, trouble shoot and repair equipment.

Experience:


  • Two to three years' experience in clinical or research human polysomnography, preferred.
