GENERAL SUMMARY:

Acts as a peer resource for all phases of Sterile Processing: Decontamination, Instrumentation, Prep and Packaging, Sterilization, Sterile Storage, and Distribution. Assists management with planning, organizing, implementing, training and documenting competencies for new employees. Complies with and reinforces established safety, regulatory and facility policies, standards and procedures



PRINCIPAL JOB FUNCTIONS:




  1. *Commits to the mission, vision, beliefs and consistently demonstrates our core values.






  1. *Completes Sterile Processing Tech I job functions as assigned.






  1. *Assists with orientation and ongoing training, education and competency documentation for new employees.






  1. *Acts as a resource for all phases of Sterile Processing and readily shares expertise with team members.






  1. *Acts as primary peer resource for assigned instrumentation area including Cardiac, Dental, Eye, ENT, General, GYN, Neuro, Ortho, Plastics, Urology, Vascular/Thoracic, Emergency, Gastro Intestinal, Radiology or Obstetrics.






  1. Assists Sterile Processing Management in implementing new and revised work processes; participates in work groups or task forces as requested.






  1. Provides input into budget preparation and departmental needs to positively impact customer service.






  1. *Responds immediately and appropriately in emergency situations.






  1. Participates in quality improvement activities to meet or exceed customer expectations.






  1. Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise.






  1. Performs other related projects and duties as assigned.





REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:




  1. Knowledge of sterile processing methods and processes including relevant safety and regulatory practices.






  1. Knowledge of computer hardware equipment and software applications relevant to work functions.






  1. Skill in the operation of applicable sterile processing and departmental equipment.






  1. Skill to properly handle fragile and expensive hospital and patient equipment and instruments.






  1. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.






  1. Ability to read, comprehend and carry out detailed written procedures.






  1. Ability to identify and care for large numbers of surgical instruments and sterilization processes.






  1. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of personnel and medical staff.






  1. Ability to problem solve and engage independent critical thinking skills.






  1. Ability to maintain confidentiality relevant to sensitive information.






  1. Ability to prioritize work demands and work with minimal supervision.






  1. Ability to effectively react and perform work under stressful and emergent situations.






  1. Ability to act in leadership role.






  1. Ability to instruct and train in an effective manner.






  1. Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance.





EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma or equivalency required. Minimum of one (1) year Sterile Processing experience required. Certification from the Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution OR the International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management (IAHCSMM) Central Service Society required.



PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

(Physical Requirements are based on federal criteria and assigned by Human Resources upon review of the Principal Job Functions.)

(DOT) - Characterized as medium work requiring exertion of 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or a greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
