Position Overview




Essential Job Duties
The Department of Molecular Biomedical Sciences trains Doctor of Veterinary Medicine ( DVM) students, graduate students, and postdoctoral fellows pursuing research-focused careers. The department is dedicated to advancing knowledge of animal and human health and disease through scientific discovery and applying that knowledge to improve health and well-being.

The Lopez Soto Lab at NC State University is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Scholar to spearhead a project investigating synaptic proteins that regulate pain signaling.

Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Experimental Design & Execution: Plan, execute, and analyze laboratory experiments evaluating synaptic protein properties. Utilize a diverse toolkit including physiology and electrophysiology recordings, molecular and cellular techniques, and mouse behavioral assays.

  • Data Analysis & Scientific Reporting: Perform rigorous statistical analyses, interpret complex datasets, and contribute to manuscript preparation and result documentation.

  • Laboratory Management & Maintenance: Maintain cell lines, support mouse colony management, and assist with general laboratory operations and inventory needs.

  • Mentorship & Collaboration: Actively participate in lab meetings, present research findings, and assist in training and mentoring junior lab members or students.

Other Work/Responsibilities

  • Plan and conduct in vitro and in vivo animal studies
  • Participate in lab meetings
  • Present at scientific conferences
  • Prepare manuscripts and grants if needed
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements and Preferences






Work Schedule Monday - Friday, 8am-5pm with flexibility based on laboratory schedules, animal/experimental needs, and deadlines
Department Required Skills
Ph.D. or equivalent doctorate (e.g., M.D., D.V.M., Sc.D.) in appropriate field
awarded no more than five (5) years from initial date of postdoctoral
appointment.
Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education

  • Ability to work independently as well as contribute to a supportive team
  • environment.
  • Goal oriented and high level of motivation.
  • Strong patch clamp skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Accurate record keeping and data management skills.
  • Ability to think critically and problem-solve

Required License or Certification

  • Experience in molecular biology and biochemistry techniques (PCR; RT-qPCR; gel electrophoresis, DNA, RNA, and protein extraction)
  • Experience in molecular biology techniques, biochemistry techniques, immunohistology and imaging.
  • Experience in rodent behavioral assays and colony management

Valid NC Driver's License required? No
