GENERAL JOB SUMMARY: To perform metal finishing operations on assorted parts and assemblies to achieve quality and integrity of products at the lowest possible cost. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Works from verbal and written instructions, including job cards or detailed prints.
- Selects appropriate air tools, sanding discs, and attachments to finish grind in various light gage parts and assemblies while exercising care not to gouge or damage the part.
- Removes burrs, scratches, and sharp edges on parts using various equipment, including air tools, a flat sanding machine, a vibratory finishing machine, and pedestal bench grinders outfitted with wire wheels.
- Removes welds using air tools, such as sanders and die grinders, per drawings and detailed welding/grinding symbols.
- Prepares parts for welding by beveling edges using a beveling machine and air grinders.
- Responsible for maintaining, cleaning, lubricating, and adjusting tools and equipment.
- May be required to move various supplies to and from the work area.
- May use overhead hoists for lifting and moving large assemblies.
- Maintains a clean and safe work area.
- Performs other related duties and assignments as required.

- Ability to maintain sensitive and confidential information as required by government standards.
- Ability to interact effectively with peers and supervisors.

- Ability to adhere to workplace rules.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- 6 months of relevant experience in a shop environment.
- Basic computer skills required.
- Forklift License preferred (must be able to pass GSS Forklift Training Course).
- Ability to read, write, and follow written instructions.
WORK ENVIRONMENT / PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Shop Floor environment.
- Ability to stand and sit for long periods of time.
- Ability to perform repetitive motion (rotating wrists, keyboarding, using small/large tools).
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to tolerate constant noise (i.e., machine motors).
- Ability to work safely in the presence of hazardous chemicals and hazardous conditions.
- Ability to follow standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
