Under general supervision, provides clinical administrative, patient care support to the Department of Anatomic Pathology at Parnassus, Mount Zion, and Mission Bay campuses. Receives and processes anatomic pathology, cytology and molecular consultations and accompanying requisitions from internal departments and external facilities. Registers patients into APeX system. Communicates with internal departments, outside medical groups, patients, clients and insurance companies to verify billing information and obtain authorizations. Accessions all anatomic pathology, consult, molecular, cytology and surgical cases into departmental clinical database system (CoPath). Coordinates weekly clinical conferences and tumor boards. Responds to requests from internal and outside facilities for patient reports, slides and blocks. Coordinates research and legal requests, prepares and submits requests for special stains. Maintains patient records, reports, slides, and blocks. Receives and distributes courier cooler contents. Acts as a customer service representative for internal and external inquires.

Required Qualifications:

  • This position requires flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations
  • Bachelor's degree or at least one year of equivalent relevant work experience
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Knowledge of Windows applications.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize responsibilities and perform well under pressure and deadlines.
  • Ability to understand the complexities within a specialty department.
  • Successful completion of APeX registration training within the first 6 months of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous work experience in Pathology department
  • Coursework in Biology/Anatomy
  • Previous experience working in pathology or a medical laboratory environment
  • Working knowledge of APeX and/or CoPath systems

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.
