Position Summary
PLEASE NOTE: This position is for the UNM-Gallup Branch, located in Gallup, NM, approximately 138 miles west of Albuquerque, NM. University of New Mexico Gallup Branch anticipates hiring adjunct faculty to teach in the Fall 2026, Spring and Summer 2027 semesters in the Applied Technologies & Health Sciences (AT&HS) Division to teach and/or develop lower division courses (100 Level).
Anticipated openings potentially include the following subject:
- EMS 113 EMT Basic
- EMS 142 EMT Basic Lab
- EMS 120 Introduction to EMS Systems
- EMS 180 EMT Intermediate
- EMS 143 EMT Intermediate Lab
- EMS 106 Emergence Medical Responder
- HLED 1113 First Aid & CPR
- HLED 1115 American Heart Association CPR
The University of New Mexico established branch colleges to provide the highest quality of education for students pursuing post-secondary education at different locations throughout the state. Branch colleges respond specifically to the unique needs and multicultural backgrounds of their respective communities by offering community education programs, career and technical education including certificate and associate degree programs, and transfer programs that prepare students for upper division entry into colleges and universities.
The UNM Gallup adjunct faculty are responsible for all aspects of any class they are teaching including but not limited to meeting with the class during assigned times that may include online, evenings or weekends, content delivery, assignment development, grading assignments, reporting of grades, and assessment of student learning as outlined by the division chair.
Positions are contingent upon need each semester as determined by student enrollment levels, current course offering matrix, and demand driven by graduation requirements. Positions may be filled or eliminated each semester up to the deadline for students to drop or add courses. Candidates who are selected for these positions will report to the division chair. Salary dependent on qualifications.
Wages Adjunct Faculty are currently compensated on the basis of their credentials and credit hour course loads.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications for EMS Instructors:
- UNM Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Academy Approved
EMT/EMS Instructor Coordinator - Current New Mexico Emergency Medical Technician
Certification (AEMT/Paramedic) - Current Basic Life Support (CPR) Card.
Minimum Qualifications for American Heart Association CPR Instructors:
- Instructor certification with American Heart Association CPR.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Five (5) years professional EMS experience
- Experience teaching EMS/EMT classes
- Experience with program design/methodology
- Experience being a Basic Life Support (CPR) Instructor
- A demonstrated commitment
to cultivate an understanding of the rich and varied cultures of New Mexico and to the success of the university's mission to serve local and global communities
