DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This role involves performing a wide range of repairs and preventive maintenance to support the operations of the Hollidaysburg Veterans Home. As a Maintenance Repairman 2, you will perform the following duties:

  • Carpentry Tasks: Repair doors, doorframes, and furniture, and fabricate temporary partitions
  • Electrical Work: Install circuits and fixtures, and repair motors, fans, and lighting systems
  • Plumbing and Pipework: Install fixtures, open clogged drains, and measure, cut, and thread pipe for steam and water lines
  • HVAC Maintenance: Maintain heating and cooling units, repair steam heating equipment, and service freezers, coolers, and refrigerators
  • Surface Finishing: Prepare surfaces, paint interiors, repair or hang wallpaper, and perform masonry work on foundations, walkways, and walls
  • Snow and Grounds Care: Remove snow and maintain sidewalks, steps, and parking areas

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week.
  • Work hours are 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM, with a 30-minute lunch. You will work rotating weekends and holidays.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Two years of experience as a Maintenance Repairman 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Four years of experience in building and plant maintenance work, which has involved at least two of the building, electrical, or mechanical trades; or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training that affords the applicant with the Required Knowledges, Skills, and Abilities.

Additional Requirements:
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Preferred Qualifications (not required):

  • Experience in industrial carpentry, electrical, plumbing, refrigeration, and HVAC trades
  • Experience in commercial and structural maintenance of buildings
  • Experience with 3-phase wiring including emergency generators, automatic transfer switches, switch gears, and 3-phase panels
  • Experience with domestic hot water mixing valves, recirculating loops, aqua stats, and instantaneous water heaters
  • Experience with the provisions of Life Safety Codes and Uniform Construction Code (UCC) as it relates to repair of buildings
