THE POSITION

Are you ready to strengthen your clerical abilities in a role where your careful review and helpful guidance support child safety efforts across Pennsylvania? As a Clerical Assistant 3 with the Department of Human Services, you will make a direct and positive impact through detailed work and strong customer service. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position supports ChildLine operations by reviewing clearance applications, assisting callers, and helping ensure the safety of children across the Commonwealth. The work involves careful evaluation of records, communication with applicants, and accurate processing of official documentation. As a Clerical Assistant 3, you will perform the following duties:

  • Caller Support: Answer inquiries and guide callers through clearance verification steps
  • Application Review: Examine and compare applicant information across multiple databases
  • Record Processing: Enter, update, and confirm clearance data in official systems
  • Criminal Checks: Review criminal histories and assess whether offenses meet legal criteria
  • Written Communication: Prepare clear responses to applicant questions and requests
  • Mail Handling: Open, sort, and process incoming applications and related fees

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
  • Work hours are 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, up to 3 days per week after an in-office training period. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year as a Clerical Assistant 2 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • One year of moderately complex clerical experience; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Other Requirements:

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Legal Requirements:

  • This position falls under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law.
    • Under the Law, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports including, but not limited to, PA State Police clearance, PA Child Abuse history clearance, and FBI Fingerprint clearance.
