Job Title: Systems Engineer - AS400 Analyst

Location(s): New York City, NY or Jersey City, NJ

Job Summary:
We are seeking a Senior IBM i (AS/400) Systems Engineer with extensive experience managing enterprise IBM i (AS/400/iSeries) environments. This role is responsible for the design, implementation, administration, performance optimization, security, and operational support of mission-critical IBM i systems. The engineer will collaborate with application owners, infrastructure teams, and business stakeholders to ensure high availability, stability, and security across production and non-production environments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Administer, support, and maintain enterprise IBM i (AS/400/iSeries) environments.
  • Build, configure, and deploy IBM i systems based on business and project requirements.
  • Ensure high availability and operational continuity of production and development IBM i systems.
  • Monitor and optimize system performance, capacity, and overall health.
  • Implement system upgrades, patches, and infrastructure enhancements.
  • Develop and recommend improvements aligned with business objectives and industry best practices.
  • Collaborate with application owners and IT teams to support business-critical applications.
  • Maintain secure IBM i environments through security hardening, access controls, and compliance initiatives.
  • Implement IBM i security best practices and continuously improve system security posture.
  • Participate in infrastructure projects involving IBM i platforms.
  • Coordinate with global IBM i teams to establish standards, best practices, and operational consistency.
  • Ensure operational procedures, supervision controls, and documentation remain current.
  • Provide Level 2 and Level 3 infrastructure support for IBM i-related issues.
  • Support related server technologies where IBM i integration exists and escalate issues when necessary.
  • Participate in on-call rotations, scheduled maintenance windows, and weekend support activities.
  • Identify opportunities for automation, operational improvements, and cost optimization.
  • Maintain technical knowledge of IBM i technologies, industry standards, and emerging best practices.
  • Ensure compliance with organizational policies, operational risk controls, security standards, and regulatory requirements.

Required Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of hands-on experience administering IBM i (AS/400/iSeries) environments.
  • Strong expertise in IBM i system administration and infrastructure management.
  • Experience supporting mission-critical production IBM i environments.
  • Strong knowledge of IBM i performance monitoring and tuning.
  • Experience implementing IBM i security, user access management, and system hardening.
  • Experience with IBM i system installation, configuration, upgrades, and maintenance.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills for complex IBM i infrastructure issues.
  • Experience supporting disaster recovery and high availability environments.
  • Ability to work closely with application support, infrastructure, and business teams.
  • Experience developing operational procedures and maintaining technical documentation.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently in a senior engineering role.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience working in large enterprise or financial services environments.
  • Knowledge of IBM Power Systems infrastructure.
  • Experience with IBM i backup and recovery solutions.
  • Familiarity with automation and infrastructure management tools.
  • Understanding of regulatory compliance, operational risk, and security governance.
  • Experience collaborating with geographically distributed infrastructure teams.

Work Schedule:

  • Full-time, on-site in either New York City, NY or Jersey City, NJ.
  • Participation in on-call support rotation and scheduled weekend maintenance is required.
