Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced AV Field Engineer to join a dynamic team in a contract-to-hire role. This position is responsible for troubleshooting, configuring, commissioning, and supporting complex commercial audiovisual systems, including control systems, digital signal processors (DSPs), networked AV equipment, and video conferencing technologies. The ideal candidate possesses strong technical expertise, excellent problem-solving abilities, and the ability to manage multiple projects while delivering high-quality customer support in both field and office environments.

Job Responsibilities




  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair complex audiovisual systems and equipment.



  • Test system components and verify field connections, labeling, installation quality, and overall system functionality.



  • Create and coordinate complete drawing packages, including signal flow diagrams, equipment elevations, display layouts, speaker placement, and conduit requirements.



  • Review AV system designs, identify missing or incorrect materials, recommend design improvements, and create change orders as needed.



  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines and quality standards.



  • Provide remote technical support to customers and field technicians.



  • Troubleshoot and repair Crestron control systems.



  • Interpret technical drawings, specifications, and manuals to support system installation and commissioning.



  • Create shop drawings and project submittals for project kickoff.



  • Configure and commission DSPs, mixers, wireless microphone systems, lighting systems, video systems, and related AV equipment.



  • Program and configure DSP platforms, including Biamp, QSC/Q-SYS, BSS, and ClearOne.



  • Program and configure control systems including Crestron, Extron, and AMX.



  • Configure and troubleshoot matrix switchers, matrix mixers, and video conferencing systems including Cisco and Polycom.



  • Commission commercial audio systems and perform audio tuning for complex divisible spaces.



  • Work both in-house and at customer locations as required.



  • Assist with project punch lists and project closeout activities.



  • Coordinate technical implementation with project teams and IT personnel.



  • Support sales teams with product demonstrations and technical presentations.



  • Assist project managers with change order designs, estimates, and technical documentation.



  • Perform additional duties as assigned.




Job Requirements




  • Minimum of 3 years of experience commissioning large-scale commercial audiovisual systems.



  • Demonstrated experience configuring and troubleshooting Crestron, Extron, and QSC control systems.



  • Experience programming or modifying Crestron control systems and creating DSP files.



  • Experience configuring, uploading, and troubleshooting DSP platforms including Biamp and QSC/Q-SYS.



  • Experience configuring and troubleshooting VLAN networks and network switches for multicast traffic.



  • Experience commissioning and tuning complex commercial audio systems.



  • Experience configuring and troubleshooting video conferencing systems, including Cisco and Polycom.



  • Proven experience creating complete AV drawing packages, including signal flow diagrams, equipment elevations, speaker layouts, and conduit requirements.



  • Strong understanding of AV system commissioning, troubleshooting, and field support.



  • Ability to interpret blueprints, specifications, and technical documentation.



  • Demonstrated project management skills, including defining project scope, developing tasks, and managing projects through customer turnover.



  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and critical thinking skills.



  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.



  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams.



  • Self-motivated with a professional attitude and commitment to continuous process improvement.



  • Ability to travel locally throughout the assigned service territory.



  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Microsoft Project.



  • Networking coursework preferred.



  • CTS, EAVA, Crestron Programmer Level 1, and Q-SYS Level 1 certifications preferred.




Education




  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field preferred.

  • Schedule: Typically 7:00 AM start time, averaging 40-50 hours per week.



  • Travel: Local travel throughout Orange County and Los Angeles County as required.
