Tesla's Power Electronics Engineering team is looking for a Magnetics Intern to join our hardware design team - a tight-knit group of engineers tackling some of the most demanding magnetics challenges in the industry across products like Powerwall, Megapack, and vehicle on-board chargers. You'll be embedded in a fast-paced, high-ownership environment where your work moves from simulation to prototype to production. You'll have direct access to seasoned engineers who are shaping the future of power electronics - and autonomy to make meaningful contributions from day one. If you thrive on technical depth, enjoy navigating ambiguity, and want your engineering work to have real-world impact at global scale, this role is for you.

Location:Palo Alto, CA

What You'll Do
  • Drive Cross-Functional Innovation: Partner directly with electrical, mechanical, EMC, and controls engineers across the full product development lifecycle - from early-stage concept and architecture definition through prototyping, testing, supplier collaboration, and manufacturing introduction
  • Solve Real-World Engineering Challenges: Diagnose, debug, and resolve complex issues in magnetic component design - balancing cost-effectiveness, reliability, and manufacturability to deliver production-ready solutions at scale
  • Advance Simulation Capabilities: Build and refine the simulation infrastructure used by the magnetics team, pushing the boundaries of electromagnetic and multi-physics modeling for next-generation power electronics
  • Own Hardware Validation: Lead hands-on electrical testing efforts, from bench-level component characterization to converter-level performance validation - gaining direct exposure to the full hardware design-to-test pipeline

What You'll Bring
  • Currently pursuing a Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
  • Solid grounding in electromagnetic theory, including properties of magnetic materials and winding techniques for high-frequency components
  • Foundational knowledge of power electronics topologies (AC-DC, DC-AC, DC-DC) and how magnetic design choices affect converter-level performance
  • Hands-on experience with magnetic component design - core selection, winding arrangement, loss characterization, and thermal considerations
  • Exposure to electromagnetic or multi-physics simulation tools such as ANSYS Maxwell, SIwave, or COMSOL Multiphysics
