Position summary:

Architectural Designer II is a professional architectural staff member who independently performs a range of architectural assignments with minimal supervision. The role supports projects of medium to large size and complexity and contributes to defined technical components of larger, more complex projects. The position involves investigating and evaluating design options, supporting recommended solutions that align with project goals and client needs, and applying established architectural principles, techniques, and procedures. The Architecture Designer II demonstrates increasing technical proficiency, sound design judgment, and professional independence while collaborating with project teams and contributing meaningfully to design development, documentation, and coordination efforts.

Compensation for this position is $36.10 - $39.42/hr, commensurate with experience, education and certifications. The provided range is a good faith estimate based on the requirements described within the job description. We notice that we receive a wide variety of applicants and recognize that the person selected may be less experienced or more experienced. If so, the actual salary range may vary from the estimate provided.

Essential functions and responsibilities:



  • Apply advanced architectural concepts and design methods to develop quality design solutions.
  • Prepare architectural drawings and construction documentation in accordance with established standards, building codes, zoning regulations, sustainability requirements, and scope.
  • Utilize architectural design, modeling, and graphic software, including Revit, Rhino, Enscape, Adobe Creative Cloud, and similar applications to develop drawings, models, and visualizations in support of project deliverables, with limited guidance from senior staff.
  • Develop and coordinate architectural specifications to align with construction documents and technical requirements.
  • Conduct code research and summarize requirements that inform design decisions, coordination, and documentation.
  • Assist in the development of client presentation materials, participate in internal and external meetings as appropriate, and support meeting documentation and followup tasks.
  • Perform quality control reviews throughout the phases of design to support technical accuracy and documentation quality.
  • Provide technical guidance to less experienced architects/architectural staff.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development activities and demonstrate a commitment to building technical expertise, professional judgment, and continued growth within the firm.
  • Travel to JMT locations and project sites is required as needed

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree from an NAAB accredited Architecture program
  • 6+ years of related architecture experience.
  • Proficient with computer-assisted design and graphic software such as Revit, Rhino, Enscape, Adobe Creative Cloud, AutoCAD, Sketch-Up, etc..
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Understanding of basic codes and sustainability requirements.
  • Understanding of Building Programming.
  • Knowledge of Building Information Modeling.
  • Ability to travel


Qualifications preferred:



  • Masters of Architecture.
  • Actively pursuing Professional Architect License.
  • LEED AP accreditation preferred.
  • Experience in architectural practice in education, transportation, community, federal, or a related market.
  • Exposure to environmental analysis applications such as Climate Studio, Sefaira, Insight360, and Lady Bug/Honeybee is a plus.


Working Conditions

Work is performed within a general office environment. Work is generally sedentary in nature, but may require occasional standing and walking. Lighting and temperature are adequate and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. within the office environment.
