Puyallup Online Academy is seeking a highly motivated, student-centered School Counselor to join our growing team. This position is ideal for someone who believes relationships are the foundation of student success and is passionate about supporting students in an innovative online learning environment.
This is not a traditional school counseling position. Our students have intentionally chosen a flexible educational model that requires personalized support, proactive communication, and creative problem-solving. The successful candidate will play a key role in helping students remain engaged, achieve their academic goals, and prepare for life after high school.
As a member of the Puyallup Online Academy team, you will collaborate with teachers, administrators, families, and community partners to provide comprehensive academic, social-emotional, and postsecondary support for students in grades 9*12.

    Primary Responsibilities

    * Build meaningful relationships with students and families through regular communication.
    * Monitor academic progress, attendance, graduation requirements, and student engagement.
    * Develop academic plans, complete credit reviews, and support High School and Beyond Plans.
    * Guide students through college, career, apprenticeship, military, and workforce planning.
    * Coordinate interventions with staff and connect students and families with school and community resources.
    * Support enrollment, scheduling, orientation, and student transitions.

    * Collaborate as part of the Innovative and Flexible Programs student support team.

We are looking for a counselor who:
    * Builds strong relationships with students from diverse backgrounds.
    * Believes every student deserves an individualized pathway to success.
    * Thrives in a collaborative, innovative environment.
    * Is highly organized, flexible, and solutions-oriented.
    * Effectively uses technology to engage students and families in a virtual setting.

Puyallup Online Academy is part of the Puyallup School District's Innovative and Flexible Programs (IFP) network, where collaboration is at the heart of everything we do. The successful candidate will join a dedicated student support team that includes two additional school counselors serving our Innovative and Flexible Programs. Together, this team works across programs to ensure every student receives personalized academic, social-emotional, and postsecondary support.
If you are passionate about building meaningful relationships, thinking creatively, and helping students discover pathways to success, we encourage you to apply.
