Job Description
General Purpose of Job: The Workplace Violence Prevention & Training Specialist is responsible for designing, developing, and delivering comprehensive training programs with a primary focus on de-escalation strategies. This role leads the creation of evidence-based curricula, equips personnel with skills to safely manage high-risk interactions, and promotes best practices that reduce conflict, enhance community trust, and improve safety outcomes. The coordinator also trains and supports instructors, ensures program consistency and effectiveness, and evaluates training impact to support continuous improvement across the organization. Essential Duties: This job description is intended to cover the minimum essential duties assigned on a regular basis. - Design, develop, and implement a comprehensive de-escalation training program grounded in current research, legal standards, and best practices.
- Deliver engaging, scenario-based training to team members, emphasizing communication, decision-making, and conflict resolution skills.
- Serve as a lead instructor and subject matter expert on de-escalation techniques, use-of-force considerations, and crisis intervention.
- Develop lesson plans, training materials, simulations, and evaluation tools to support consistent and effective instruction.
- Train, mentor, and certify internal instructors to ensure program scalability and fidelity.
- Evaluate training effectiveness through assessments, participant feedback, and performance metrics; revise curriculum as needed for continuous improvement.
- Ensure all training aligns with applicable laws, accreditation standards, and organizational policies.
- Collaborate with command staff, community stakeholders, and partner agencies to incorporate diverse perspectives and build trust.
- Stay current on emerging trends, research, and innovations in de-escalation, crisis response, and adult learning methodologies.
- Maintain accurate training records, reports, and documentation in compliance with regulatory and organizational requirements.
- Support organizational initiatives related to risk reduction, team member safety, and community engagement.
- Respond to critical incidents as a training advisor or observer to identify lessons learned and inform future training.

* Bachelor's degree required and 1 yr of experience creating, planning, coordinating and implementing training and programs OR Associate's degree and 3 yrs experience creating, planning, coordinating and implementing training and programs. |
