Primary function of a Shop Mechanic Typical Duties Include and Are Not Limited To:
- Inspect, diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair a wide variety of construction equipment.
- Perform preventative maintenance, repairs, and equipment adjustments as needed.
- Use diagnostic software, heavy-duty scanners, multimeters, and other testing equipment to accurately identify mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, DEF, and emissions system issues.
- Repair and maintain equipment including, but not limited to:
- Small engine equipment
- Concrete paving screeds
- Forklifts and telehandlers (CAT, JCB, JLG)
- Excavators (CAT, Hitachi, Komatsu, John Deere)
- Link-Belt and Kobelco crawler and rough terrain cranes
- Pickup trucks
- Class 8 heavy haul trucks and trailers
- Mercury outboard boat engines and larger barge pusher boats
- Replace defective parts and components using appropriate hand and power tools.
- Perform MIG and stick welding as required.
- Operate oxy-acetylene cutting torches and plasma cutters safely and effectively.
- Collaborate with coworkers and the Service Manager to troubleshoot complex repairs and ensure timely completion of work.
- Maintain clear, professional communication with team members and supervisors.
- Follow all company safety policies and maintain a clean, organized work area.

- Promote and enforce safety first and foremost.
- Look for potential safety issues on the project.
Project Execution and Paperwork
- Complete all required paperwork accurately and in a timely fashion.
- Recognize the need for assistance and ask for it.
- Look for ways to be more efficient and effective.
- Maintain a high level of professional ethics and demand the same of all employees.
Quality And Production
- Immediately address any and all quality or production issues.
- Inspect work in progress to ensure consistence in workmanship and specifications.
Skills, Knowledge, Qualifications & Experience:
- Excellent communication, organization, and motivation.
- Must have valid drivers license and meet all Crowder standards for Driver Authorization.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, DEF, and emissions systems.
- Experience using heavy-duty diagnostic software, scanners, and multimeters.
- Proficiency in stick and MIG welding.
- Experience using oxy-acetylene torches and plasma cutters.
- Ability to use a variety of hand and power tools.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Must provide your own tools.
- Class B CDL is preferred but not required.
