TITLE: Manager, Member Engagement

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: Senior Manager, Member Engagement

BASIC FUNCTION:

Partner with American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) member leaders and staff to advance member-driven strategies that strengthen the value of membership. Lead engagement strategies for assigned member sections and segments, serving as a trusted advisor to member leaders and translating member needs into initiatives that increase engagement, recruitment, retention, and satisfaction.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Serve as the strategic staff liaison for assigned member sections, segments, and work groups, advising leaders and aligning priorities with AAP's mission and strategic plan.
  2. Develop and implement high-impact programs and initiatives that increase member engagement, recruitment, retention, and satisfaction, leveraging data and member insights to guide strategic decision-making.
  3. Develop and implement an annual operational plan for assigned sections and segments with clear goals, metrics, and success measures.
  4. Manage section operations, governance processes, and activities, including meetings, subcommittees/workgroups, elections, publications, awards, and National Conference programming, in alignment with AAP policies.
  5. Identify emerging member needs and trends, helping evolve engagement strategies in a changing healthcare environment.
  6. Identify revenue opportunities to support sustainable program growth and member value.
  7. Support training and initiatives that contribute to strengthening the pediatric workforce and advancing the development of future pediatric leaders.
  8. Lead the planning and delivery of section programming for conferences and events, ensuring high-quality content, strong member engagement, and seamless execution.
  9. Serve as the AAP staff subject matter expert on the drivers, motivators, needs, characteristics, and work activities of assigned member groups, providing guidance and insights to staff and key external stakeholders to ensure strategies, programs, and communications effectively meet member needs.
  10. Partner across AAP departments, member groups, and external stakeholders to deliver integrated engagement strategies and advance organizational priorities.
  11. Manage preparation of budgets, reporting on variances, and resource allocation for assigned sections and projects, ensuring alignment with priorities and delivery of measurable results.
  12. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualified candidates will possess:

  1. Bachelor's degree in association management, communications, marketing or related discipline or an equivalent combination of relevant education and work experience required.
  2. At least three years of progressive related experience in program development, implementation, and evaluation within a medical association or similar environment required, including experience managing member leader groups. Knowledge of education and training pathways for pediatricians, pediatric subspecialists, and pediatric surgical specialists, as well as career opportunities within the field preferred.
  3. Excellent diplomacy, organization, verbal/written communication, leadership, critical thinking, and interpersonal skills required. Must be able to collaborate effectively with various internal and external constituents, take initiative, manage multiple priorities simultaneously, work both independently and as part of a team, and maintain a positive and cooperative team-oriented work environment with a commitment to fostering a culture where everyone feels valued and respected. Strong technical acumen is essential with proficiency in MS Office and the ability to learn and apply new technologies including the use of AI; experience with membership data systems/CRM/reporting systems (e.g., netForum and PowerBI), document collaboration platforms (e.g., SharePoint). and virtual meeting platforms (e.g., WebEx, Teams) preferred. Some travel and evening/weekend work required, as well as the ability to be flexible with work schedule to accommodate physicians' availability.

A reasonable estimate of the current base pay range for this position is $102,105.27 - $107,777.80. Compensation decisions take into account a wide range of factors, including but not limited to relevant experience, skills, certifications, geographic location, business needs, and organizational policies. In addition to those factors, we believe in the importance of pay equity and consider internal equity of our current team members as a part of any final offer.
