The CMM Engineer works under the direction of quality management with minimum supervision. Is responsible for CMM machine programming, training, and associated preventative/reactive maintenance.



Essential Duties and Responsibilities



  • Develop, validate, and optimize CMM programs to inspect complex geometries and ensure conformance to engineering specifications
  • Collaborate with design and manufacturing teams to refine measurement techniques, ensuring accurate and efficient processes
  • Develop and implement CMM inspection plans, including the selection of appropriate measurement methods and technologies
  • Utilize CAD models to create measurement plans and generate programs for various CMM systems
  • Analyze measurement data to identify trends, anomalies, and areas for improvement, reporting findings to relevant stakeholders
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the quality management system
  • Provide training and mentorship to junior team members on CMM programming and measurement techniques
  • Document inspection processes and results, ensuring compliance with industry standards and internal procedures.


Completes other tasks assigned by management.



Qualifications



  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, manufacturing engineering, or a related field, and 5+ years of CMM programming experience or Associate's degree in related field, and 10+ years of CMM programming experience preferred.
  • Strong understanding of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) principles
  • Proficiency in CMM software, Calypso, PC-DMIS, PowerInspect preferred
  • Expertise in CMM programming and operation
  • Familiarity with CNC programming and machine shop operations
  • Must be able to read complex blueprints, technical drawings, bills of material, assembly instructions
  • Ability to use measuring equipment - calipers, height gauges, micrometers etc.
  • Ability to work hands on within the production environment
  • Exceptional attention to detail and a strong analytical mindset
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical information clearly
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office, CAD/CAM software (e.g., CATIA, SolidWorks)
  • Collaborative approach to problem-solving, fostering teamwork across departments
  • Proactive attitude towards learning and adapting to new technologies
