The Business Services Department impacts our mission by delivering services and programs that support our excellence-driven team of hospitality professionals. This includes providing management and administration in areas such as procurement, financial reporting and employee development. The Administrative Analyst II position provides timely and accurate financial and program data support, maintenance, analysis and reporting for the Convention Center. This position also provides support to Business Services' activities and programs. This position requires a strong commitment to a high level of customer services in a hospitality environment.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

- Develop and/or analyze proposals for new department programs or changes in organizational structure, evaluate existing programs and make recommendations regarding program implementation.
- Analyze performance data and interpret data trends.
- Develop contracts, requisitions, and related documents. Serve as back up to the Account Clerk II as needed.
- Work with department administration in planning and development of strategic plans.
- Assist in coordinating and monitoring assigned programs, including record keeping, asset management, training, monitoring, and evaluation.
- Assist with the design, development, implementation and continual enhancement of computerized information systems, including specialized event management software.
- Assist with budget preparation, administration and monitoring for various cost centers.
- Design training programs and train personnel on department operating systems.
- Participate in Public Health Emergency Preparedness planning, training and response as needed when assigned to the Health and Family Support department.
- Gather, import, prepare adjusting entries, prepare and maintain schedules, produce and review financial and operational data and information, perform complex calculations, and prepare financial, management and operational reports using City software and specialized event management software.
- Prepare revenue and expense projections using historical data and future event bookings.
- Verify cost information and revenue reports for various programs. Track and analyze data and interpret data trends.
- Gather and maintain a variety of operational data. Prepare industry surveys.
- Monitor and verify departmental expenses and coding to provide consistency in coding expenses.
- Provide expense control by performing period reconciliation of general ledger accounts and capital projects with accounting and specialized event management software, vendors and other departments.
- Assist with budget preparation & monitoring.
- Assist with the monitoring of revenue contracts.
Other
- Provide assistance and support to the Business Services Manager and Director of Business Administration by performing a wide variety of special and on-going projects, including report preparation, data input and analysis.
- Function as a departmental representative on various committees and task forces as required.
- Participate as a member of the Business Services Department team and assist with employee activities, programs, training and training materials.
- Serve as the Convention Center's backup human resources representative. Including updating new hire information, increases, and serving as a resource to employees regarding pay and benefit information.
- Other duties as required.

Required Qualifications

MINIMUM EDUCATION Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, or related field. MINIMUM EXPERIENCE Three years performing duties closely related to those listed above. Hospitality experience is preferred. LICENSES / CERTIFICATIONS None required
EQUIVALENCY
An equivalent combination of education and experience closely related to the duties of the position MAY be considered.
Selection Process The selection process will consist of one or more of the following steps: a rating of relevant education and experience and/or an oral examination (100%). It is important that your application show all the relevant education and experience you possess. This information will be used to determine which candidates will proceed in the selection process. A submitted application is also used to verify the answers to any supplemental questions. Only those candidates who attain a passing score (70%) on each step in the selection process will be placed on the eligible list. The City of Minneapolis Human Resources Department reserves the right to limit the number in any phase of the selection process.
Testing Requirement
Applicants who meet the minimum qualifications will be invited to complete a written examination at the Minneapolis Convention Center on August 5th, 2026. Eligible applicants will receive an email with the date, time, location, and additional instructions for the examination. Successful completion of the written examination is required to continue in the selection process. Background Check The City has determined that a criminal background check and/or qualifications check may be necessary for certain positions with this job title. Applicants may be required to sign an informed consent form allowing the City to obtain their criminal history and/or verify their qualifications in connection with the position sought. Applicants who do not sign the informed consent form will not be further considered for the position. Union Representation This position is represented by a collective bargaining agreement between the City of Minneapolis and the CPE - Professional Employees (MPEA) . Eligible List Statement The names of applicants who meet minimum qualification and who pass the screening process shall be placed on the eligible list for employment consideration. This list will be certified to the hiring manager who may use the list to fill a vacancy of the same job title. This eligible list will expire 2 months after it has been established. Interview Selection The hiring authority reserves the right to determine the maximum number of candidates to interview from the established eligible list. If the hiring authority decides to interview other than by exam score order, they may select additional people to interview based on a candidate's education or experience related to the field, work history, or skills uniquely related to the operational needs of the position.
