Position Description

The Department of Global Health and Biobehavioral Sciences in the Joe C. Wen School of Population and Public Health at the University of California, Irvine (UCI) invites applications for a Junior Specialist or Associate Specialist position in the laboratory of Dr. Guiyun Yan. The Yan Laboratory conducts research in vector biology, vector-borne disease epidemiology, molecular genetics, and global health, with a particular focus on malaria and other mosquito-borne diseases.

We seek a highly motivated and organized individual with strong laboratory, project management, and communication skills. Under the supervision of the Principal Investigator and senior laboratory personnel, the Junior Specialist will contribute to research activities, laboratory operations, and training initiatives that support ongoing federally funded research programs.

Major Responsibilities

* Assist with laboratory and field research activities related to disease vectors and vector-borne diseases.

* Maintain laboratory operations, including ordering supplies, inventory management, equipment maintenance, organization, and compliance with laboratory safety procedures.

* Prepare, update, and distribute laboratory protocols, standard operating procedures (SOPs), project reports, and research documentation.

* Perform molecular, genetic, entomological, and epidemiological laboratory procedures.

* Support mosquito vector and pathogen identification using standard laboratory methods.

* Analyze, organize, and maintain research data and records.

* Train and assist students, staff, and visiting researchers in laboratory techniques and protocols.

* Participate in laboratory meetings and contribute to research presentations, reports, and publications as appropriate.

* Perform other duties as assigned in support of the laboratory's research mission.

Qualifications
Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

Required Qualifications:

* Bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences, Public Health, Molecular Biology, Entomology, Genetics, or a closely related field.

* Experience working in a biological, molecular, or public health research laboratory.

* Strong organizational, time-management, and interpersonal skills.

* Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced research environment.

* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Occasional evening and weekend work may be required based on research and project needs.
