Salary offers are based on the candidate's equivalent experience and internal equity with other employees within the same job classification. The position is eligible for overtime compensation for all hours worked over 40 in the designated workweek.

About the Position

The Accounting Specialist provides technical assistance in coordinating and processing department purchase requests, accounts payable, travel, and provides support related to finance and audit activities in accordance with federal and county guidelines.

We Require

  • Two years of procurement, clerical accounting, bookkeeping, or similar experience

  • High school diploma or GED

Other Requirements

  • Successful candidates must currently possess, or have the ability to obtain, a valid Arizona Driver's license by the time of hire

  • Must obtain Maricopa County Certified Agency Procurement Aide (CAPA) certification within two months of hire

  • Must complete background check and fingerprint identification upon hire to successfully secure and maintain DPS Fingerprint Clearance Card

We Also Value

  • Two years of accounts payable experience

  • Experience in public sector or non-profit accounting environment

  • Experience with federal and state grants.

  • Experience and knowledge of CGI Advantage Financial System and OnBase

  • Knowledge of Accounting principles and practices

  • Knowledge of County procurement policy

Job Contributions

  • Compiles, records, and reconciles accounts and financial transactions.

  • Posts information and balances general and subsidiary ledgers and accounts.

  • Processes payments and/or billings.

  • Performs accounts receivable duties.

  • Compiles monthly closings and annual reports.

  • Maintains accounting and financial records.

  • Processes journal vouchers.

  • Researches account issues.

  • Audits budgetary and expenditure documents.

  • Gathers statistical data and prepares worksheets and reports.

  • Explains accounting and financial procedures to employees and the public.

  • Senior-level incumbents may provide training and/or direct the work of less experienced employees.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Working Conditions

  • Work is routinely performed in an office environment, which may require long periods of sitting, reading, and typing.

  • Requires travel to program sites throughout Maricopa County.

  • The position requires travel to and from various county, client, and contractor locations during a scheduled workday, subject to County policies regarding the use of County vehicles and/or private vehicles used on County business.
