Learn more about the UC Office of the President DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW University of California Health comprises six academic health centers, 21 health professional schools and systemwide services that improve the health of patients and the University's students, faculty and employees. All of UC's hospitals are ranked among the best in California and its medical schools and health professional schools are nationally ranked in their respective areas. UC Health has one of the nation's largest health science instructional programs and includes schools of medicine, nursing, pharmacy, dentistry, public health, optometry, and veterinary medicine. Within University of California Health, the Academic Health Sciences department provides leadership, strategic direction, policy guidance and advocacy to advance the health sciences goals at the academic health campuses as well as the overall health system. The unit works closely with leadership in the Office of the President (OP) and academic health campus leadership on a complex range of issues and priorities that may impact the health science schools. POSITION SUMMARY The University of California is the designated institution responsible for administering state funding to increase and sustain graduate medical education (GME) in California through statewide, multi-million dollar grant programs funded by Proposition 56 and Proposition 35, approved by voters in 2016 and 2024, respectively, to sustain, retain, and expand California residency positions for under-resourced areas and populations across California. Working under the supervision of the Finance Manager for the systemwide office of UC Health (UCH) at the UC Office of the President, the Accountant serves as a key member of the department's Immediate Office, working in a high-volume and fast-paced environment with changing priorities requiring tact, political acumen, diplomacy, and discretion, across a wide variety of complex and sensitive matters. This position is critical in supporting a range of accounting functions including analyzing, monitoring, preparing financial transactions and reconciling financial information in support of UC Health's mission and goals. The incumbent will apply accounting knowledge to ensure all financial transactions are aligned with the organization budget and in compliance with UC financial, travel, personnel and document retention policies and procedures. The incumbent will be responsible for identifying, developing, documenting and communicating process improvements and department policies and procedures. The position will support on-going financial processes and deadlines as well as ad-hoc projects as assigned. Working independently, this position exercises sound judgment within defined accounting procedures and practices. This is a two-year contract position based in Oakland, California, with a hybrid work schedule. Responsibilities 40% Budget Monitoring, Compliance, and Stakeholder Coordination: Applies professional knowledge to review and monitor spending to ensure compliance with annual grant, program, and departmental budgets. Reviews budget allocations for policy exceptions and recommends adjustments as needed. Develops and maintains professional relationships with internal and external stakeholders to facilitate collaboration, resolve reconciliation issues, and address policy exception matters. 20% Journal Entries and Intercampus Transfers: Prepares journal entries and Intercampus Transfer of Funds requests, including associated supporting documentation. 10% Account Reconciliation: Reviews and reconciles account balances and prepares reconciliation reports on a regular basis. 10% Procurement Support: Prepares and reviews purchase requisitions in accordance with the procurement policies and approval workflows, ensuring proper funding source alignment, documentation, and compliance with institutional requirements. 10% Audit Support: Assists with the preparation of audit documentation under general supervision. 10% Process Improvement and Systems Support: Makes recommendations on the establishment of new or modified procedures and reporting methods to improve report content and processes. Assists with the implementation of new systems and/or tools. Special Projects Handles special projects and other related duties as assigned. Required Qualifications
