About the Position

Maricopa County is seeking a dynamic, organized, and missiondriven leader to join our team as a Benefits Supervisor in the Office of the Public Fiduciary. This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about serving the community and supporting some of our most vulnerable adults.

The Office of the Public Fiduciary manages cases involving guardianship, conservatorship, and decedent estates. As the Benefits Supervisor, you will lead the coordination of government and community entitlement programs that support individuals served by the Public Fiduciary. These services include Social Security, Veterans Administration benefits, federal and private pensions, AFDC, AHCCCS, ALTCS, SNAP, Medicare, and private health insurance.

We Require

  • Four years of specialized administrative experience, including government entitlements services involving extensive public contact, coordination of resources, or with a public sector employer

  • High school diploma or GED

  • A combination of education and experience may be considered in substitution for the minimum qualifications

We Also Value

  • Bachelor's degree with a specialization in Gerontology, Social Services, Behavioral Science, Public or Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, Criminal Justice, or a closely related field

  • One year of experience in supervision of staff, including ongoing performance management of staff

  • Experience directly relating to obtaining and maintaining government-funded benefits or other related programs, particularly in Arizona

  • Experience related to adult guardianship or conservatorship

Job Contributions

  • Provides constant oversight and performance management of benefits staff while monitoring completion of assignments

  • Review and Audit caseloads to ensure accuracy and completion, including reviewing government and private entitlements

  • Guides Benefit Specialists through complex cases and ensures full compliance with statutes, court orders, ethics, and internal policy

  • Engages in all aspects of supervisory responsibilities, including recruiting, onboarding, training, developing, disciplining, and reviewing employees' timecards

  • Lead internal and external meetings and conferences with various stakeholders, either specific to a case or on behalf of the Public Fiduciary

  • Obtains and maintains a comprehensive working knowledge of the diverse duties performed by staff including relevant laws, rules, and regulations to ensure program compliance

  • Prepares and submits benefit applications and appropriate documentation to benefit programs including ongoing re-determinations, as needed

  • Proactively notify fiduciaries when benefit risks or potential losses arise, ensuring timely action by staff

  • Composes and prepares accurate and clear correspondence, reports, and other documents for public and private agencies

Working Conditions

  • This position involves constant interruptions, time pressures, a high volume of work, and handling multiple or complicated tasks. Accuracy, decision making, concentration, vigilance, and teamwork are required. This position works in close physical proximity with others and has public contact. This position will require working in-office (5 days in office per week) for the first four months and will be reviewed for a hybrid schedule once satisfactory performance is established.
