Position Overview
The University of Kansas School of Business seeks applicants for an open rank Professor in Entrepreneurship. The search is open at the Assistant, Associate or Full Professor levels with an emphasis on Associate and Full Professors. Appointment at a particular level will be based on an applicant's scholarly and teaching record. The position is a full-time, academic year, tenure-track or tenured faculty beginning August 18, 2027.

This position will interact with students, faculty, the KU entrepreneurship ecosystem, and the broader international academic entrepreneurship community through research, teaching, and service. We encourage individuals who desire to make an impactful and sustained contribution to entrepreneurship, innovation, and related fields to apply and join a vibrant research community with Vince Barker, Chang Hoon Oh, Jun Ho Lee, Todd Hall, Lindsey Yonish, Jun Park, Clint Chadwick, Brian Anderson, Beth Embry, Kaushik Gala, Pat Downes, Nate Meikle, Patty Dahm, Niki den Nieuwenboer, and Jill Ellingson (Area Director). Management faculty routinely publish in top journals in strategy, entrepreneurship, international business, and management, serve as editors and on editorial boards, and supervise a robust doctoral program.

The University of Kansas and Lawrence, Kansas

The University of Kansas is a leading research university in the United States with a strong tradition of academic excellence. Since 1909, the University of Kansas has been a member of the Association of American Universities, the premier consortium of research institutions in North America.

The University of Kansas School of Business offers undergraduate, master's (full-time and online) and doctoral programs. In recent years, the School has experienced remarkable growth with enrollment approaching 5,000 students. Growing the breadth and impact of entrepreneurship programming features prominently in KU's strategy. The School offers a robust set of entrepreneurship degree programs and coursework at the graduate and undergraduate level and has made significant investments in entrepreneurship co-curricular programming. In Fall 2027, KU will open the Entrepreneurship Hub (thehub.ku.edu), a new 29,600 square foot facility dedicated to supporting Jayhawk student entrepreneurs.

The School of Business is located on KU's main campus in Lawrence in Capitol Federal Hall, a modern instructional facility with advanced classrooms, offices, and student resources. Lawrence is located 35 miles west of Kansas City in the Kansas River valley. With about 100,000 residents, Lawrence combines a vibrant student population with a welcoming small-town atmosphere. The city features a nationally recognized live music scene, a historic downtown with local businesses, art galleries, microbreweries, restaurants, and museums showcasing art, natural history, and anthropology.

The Kansas City metropolitan area is a 40-minute drive from Lawrence and offers diverse dining, shopping, and professional, cultural, and sporting opportunities. Kansas City International Airport (MCI) offers flights to major U.S. cities and is less than an hour from Lawrence.

Duties:

40% Research: Develop and maintain an active scholarly research agenda in entrepreneurship and related fields. Conduct, disseminate, and publish high-quality research through peer-reviewed journals, scholarly presentations, and other appropriate academic outlets.

40% Teaching: Teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses in entrepreneurship and related disciplines. Contribute to student learning through instruction, mentoring, advising, curriculum development, and other educational activities that support the mission of the School of Business.

20% Service: Engage in service activities that support the area, school, university, profession, and broader community. Contribute through committee participation, professional engagement, outreach, student support activities, and other service contributions appropriate to rank and expertise.

Required Qualifications
  1. A Ph.D. in Entrepreneurship, Strategic Management, Management or related field (must be earned by August 18, 2027).
  2. Demonstrated (or evidence of high potential for) scholarship excellence as shown through publications in leading entrepreneurship journals or leading academic journals in related fields, and promising research projects and papers targeted to leading journals.
  3. Demonstrated (or evidence of high potential for) teaching excellence in entrepreneurship and related fields.
Candidates at the Associate and Full Professor level must meet the requirements for Promotion and Tenure at that level for the School of Business at the University of Kansas.

This position requires a formal degree in the cited discipline area(s) to ensure that candidates have the foundational knowledge and skill set required to perform the duties of the position. The level of degree is based on accreditation requirements, institutional standards of academic and professional excellence, alignment with peer institution benchmarks, and contributes to the credibility and effectiveness of the role within the university community.
