Ames Federal Contracting Group is seeking a skilled Diesel Mechanic to inspect, diagnose, repair, and maintain diesel-powered heavy equipment and construction vehicles used in highway, civil, mining, rail, and industrial construction projects. The mechanic plays a critical role in ensuring equipment reliability, safety, and operational efficiency. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Diagnose and repair diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, transmissions, and drivetrain components. Perform preventive maintenance services, including 250-hour, 500-hour, 1,000-hour, and 2,000-hour service intervals. Conduct equipment inspections and troubleshoot mechanical issues. Maintain and repair heavy construction equipment such as: Excavators Dozers Wheel loaders Articulated haul trucks Skid steers On-road trucks Perform oil changes, fluid checks, and routine maintenance tasks. Fuel equipment and maintain accurate fuel logs. Ensure equipment complies with safety and regulatory requirements. Complete maintenance records, repair documentation, and work orders. Coordinate with operations and project teams to minimize equipment downtime. Adhere to all company safety policies and procedures. Qualifications 10 years of experience repairing and maintaining diesel engines and heavy construction equipment. Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills. Experience working on CAT (Caterpillar) equipment preferred. Knowledge of hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical systems. Ability to read service manuals, schematics, and repair documentation. Valid driver's license required. Class B CDL with Tanker and Hazmat endorsements may be required for some positions. Ability to work flexible schedules, including day or night shifts when necessary. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Physical Requirements Lift and carry heavy tools and components. Work outdoors in varying weather conditions. Stand, bend, kneel, climb, and work in confined spaces for extended periods. Safely operate service trucks and shop equipment. Preferred Qualifications Technical training in diesel technology, heavy equipment repair, or a related field. OEM certifications (CAT, Cummins, etc.). Welding and fabrication experience.
